1965 EAGLE DEBONAIRE - CLASSICMOBILIA

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"

1965 EAGLE DEBONAIRE

Eagle Debonaire

The 1965 Eagle was the brain child of a wealthy American with a view of being a small car manufacture of stylish motor cars.
The car was built for the US market and sold to a Japanese collector, where it was placed in a museum for a number of years. The car was sold to an enthusiast the UK and converted to right hand drive. The cars set-up was improved by very capable and knowledgable engineers in the UK, where the car was UK registered in 2002.

This stylish design steel bodied roadster is a car which is admired every where it goes.
Running on a Ford Mustang steel chassis and rear axle and suspension. Powered by a 4.7 Chevy small block with a Holly carburetor with a GM three speed automatic gearbox, so lots of power with little effort.
The front suspension is Jaguar XJS with power steering and very good power assisted braking system.

The car is full of interesting options, leather interior, mohair hood, OZ split rim wheels and purpose build stainless steel exhaust.

Tax free and very reasonable to run, but with the eye catching style of a true classic.

1977 FIAT GIARDINIERA - CLASSIC & SPORTSCAR CENTRE

 "CLASSIC OF THE DAY"

1977 Fiat Giardiniera

We are delighted to offer this exceptionally rare Fiat 500 Giardiniera onto the market. The "Giardiniera" (station wagon) featured the standard engine laid on its side, the wheelbase was lengthened by 10 cm to provide a more convenient rear seat and came it equipped with full-length sunroof. These station wagon 500's are very rarely on the market and this is the first we have owned in over 15 years. This beautiful example has spent recent years in the Italian town of Oderzo. The car appears to be a good quality older restoration that has come to us in nicely presented condition. The paintwork and body are of a very good standard, the chrome work is bright and the interior is lovely with an honest, original feel.
On the road our Fiat is fabulous fun with a true sporty feel. The car is an absolute delight to drive and offers a unique driving experience with great handling and a lively, strong engine. You really feel every bump in the road, the 500 is great in and out of corners and whilst very small, is surprisingly practical with a good rear seat and large rear storage area. The Fiat 500 is the iconic city car and the station wagon model offers this with the luxury of more room for the children and lots of space for the shopping bags!

Cobalt Blue Metallic with Grey leather, Just opening the door on this car, slowly glancing ones eyes over the facia, switchgear, seat facings, and door furniture, the sensation builds quickly of being surrounded by German precision engineering and build quality at its peak. Only 2677 Grossers were ever built between 1963 and 1981, and was believed to be the most expensive saloon car in production at that time. Seats, windows, heater vents, door and boot locking are all hydraulically operated resulting in total smoothness of operation. The 6.3 V8, coupled to the 4 speed auto gearbox produces effortless torque, with the lazy V8 burble as the perfect backdrop ! A favourite of the stars with the likes of Jay Kay, Jeremy Clarkson, Bernie Eccelstone, Elizabeth Taylor and the Pope all having owned such, some in LWB Pullman or Laundulette form. Much expenditure has been lavished on this car in recent times at marque expert John Haynes, West Sussex, with a superbly comprehensive history file bulging with invoices to accompany. Huge road presence with the stack headlamps, double deck bumpers and tall vertical grille make this car stand out and gain respect. Very rare in RHD, and even rarer in this condition. The absolute pinnacle of automotive engineering and excellence at its best - you only live once ! May P/X, £129,950

1964-1981 MERCEDES-BENZ 600

Overview

Mercedes threw everything but the kitchen sink at this technical tour de force, designed to be bought by governments rather than mere business magnates. They weighed in at 2.5 tonnes (or more for the long wheelbase seven-seater Pullman), and that was before the bullet-proof glass was added. There’s air suspension, vacuum central locking, two heating and ventilation systems, and to haul it around, a new 6.3-litre V8 engine with Bosch fuel injection. The limo stayed in production for 18 years and notched up a remarkable number of sales.

1935 ROVER SPEED 14 STREAMLINE COUPE - Jonathan Wood Vintage & Thoroughbred Restorations Limited

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"

1935 ROVER SPEED 14 STREAMLINE COUPE

The Rover Company commenced the manufacture of cars in 1904 and may be said
to have achieved a position of pre-eminence during the 1930s.
That decade witnessed a vogue for streamlining first observed in the
Chrysler Airflow and soon thereafter widely adopted by prestigious manufacturers such as
Talbot, and especially Riley, with its range of Kestrel saloons. In harmony with
this trend Rover developed and constructed their Speed 14 Streamline Coupe of
which a total of 380 were manufactured from 1934 to 1936. The body work was aluminium

and designed by Rover. The tuned six-cylinder engine of 1577cc was high compression;
gas flowed and fitted with triple SU carburettors. Brakes were hydraulic in operation
with finned drums and Rudge Whitworth centre lock wire wheels. The model was timed at
Brooklands in 1935 at 82.57mph and being possessed of 54bhp clearly demonstrated its s
uperiority in power and performance over its nearest competitor, the Riley 12/6 Kestrel. When t
he considerable saving in the purchase price over its Coventry rival was taken into account the
advanced and highly specified Rover, with the Company at the peak of its fortunes, must
have represented a tempting prospect indeed.
Of exceptional rarity, being one of perhaps fewer than 10 survivors of this model
worldwide, ‘BYP 351’ is offered for sale as a lovely example of a Speed 14 Streamline Coupe.
The car was acquired by the vendor 4 years ago when re-commissioning work was carried out
by ourselves. This includes major steering suspension overhaul work, thorough engine tune,
water pump overhaul, instrument repairs and servicing totalling £15,000. The owner has enjoyed
many happy motoring miles.
The previous owner had acquired the car some 10 years prior in a partly restored condition.
He had the car fully re-trimmed with a leather interior, the sunroof was reconstructed and
the coachwork re-cellulosed in a correct Rover period colour.
The sale of this car represents a unique opportunity to acquire a model of extreme rarity,
style and distinction in conformity with the Rover Company’s characteristically understated
contemporary advertisement description as being “One of Britain’s Fine Cars”.

1933 LANCIA ASTURA 2nd SERIES DHC - BONHAMS ZOUTE SALE

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
1933 LANCIA ASTURA 2nd SERIES DROPHEAD COUPE
1933 Lancia Astura 2nd Series Drophead Coupé Chassis no. 30-2091 Engine no. 1094
Coachwork by Carrozzeria Pinin Farina Chassis no. 30-2091 Engine no. 1094
€120,000 - 140,000
£94,000 - 110,000
Having established itself in the front rank of the world's finest cars with the Dilambda, Lancia further enhanced its exalted position with a succession of fabulous coachbuilt models on the Astura chassis in the 1930s.
One of the most gifted automobile engineers of all time, Vincenzo Lancia founded his own company in 1906, having previously been in FIAT's employ as chief test driver. Introduced in 1907, the first Lancia car showed an independence of thought and defiance of convention that would remain associated with the marque well into the modern era.

The introduction of the Astura and Artena in 1931 marked a switch from a system of model designation that used letters of the Greek alphabet in favour of one using Italian place names, a move in keeping with the nationalistic spirit of the age. One of Lancia's most important models, the Astura was powered by a new version of the company's familiar narrow-angle V8, first seen in 1922. The latter was enlarged from 2.6 to 3.0 litres on the Astura Series III in 1934 when the model also gained hydraulic brakes and became available in both short- and long-chassis forms. The Series IV featured a platform chassis of longer wheelbase, attracting some of the finest coachwork of the period, and was used extensively as official transportation by Italian government departments.

Featuring elegant drophead coupé coachwork by the newly established Carrozzeria Pinin Farina, this Astura is one of only 750 2nd Series models produced. Production number '1099' became chassis number '30-2091' and was allocated engine number '1094', making this a 'matching numbers' car, which still carries its original Pinin Farina body.

The history file indicates that the Astura was supplied new in May 1933 to Baron De Gunzburg, resident in Amsterdam. The car remained in Holland and in 1956 the title passed to the Suiker Brothers' garage. Records suggest the third owner of the car was a Mr Takken of 'vintage and veteran cars' in Harlem, a noted dealer. In February 1968 the car was rediscovered and purchased directly from Mr Takken. It was then used to tour Europe in search of original parts required for total restoration.

The rebuild commenced in 1972 with a full engine overhaul including crankshaft bearings and timing and water pump chains. Additionally, the suspension benefited from a complete rebuild front and rear, while at the same time the clutch and gearbox were overhauled and the electrics completely rewired. A stainless steel exhaust was fitted, including mufflers. In 1978, Dutch specialists under the guidance or European Lancia cognoscenti carried out a full restoration of the exterior and interior, which still presents beautifully. Since completion the Astura has been enjoyed and used regularly by the current owner, a distinguished and noted Lancia collector. The history file contains the original owner's manual and instruction book, complete with parts list published by Lancia in March 1932.

A matching numbers car retaining its original Pinin Farina body, this lovely Astura represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire an exciting and useable example of this rare post-Vintage Lancia.

Chassis No. V248781DL
Engine No. 249061
The stylish 1947 Standard Vanguard was the firm\'s first post-war introduction and was completely new from stem to stern.
Named after HMS Vanguard (it took considerable negotiation to get the Royal Navy to agree to let them use the name), the car was aimed squarely at the export market which swallowed virtually all of the production until about 1950 when they finally started to filter onto the car-starved home market.
The styling was heavily influenced by the ‘beetle back’ Plymouth and it was built on a robust chassis with a 2,088cc wet-liner engine that went on to power the Ferguson tractor, Triumph TR2 and the Morgan +4. Front suspension was independent and anti-roll bars were employed both front and rear. It had powerful hydraulic brakes all-round which were often put to good use, the car being good for 80mph.
The Phase II came along in 1953 featuring a more conventional three-box design. Mechanically similar to the earlier car, the only other significant departure was that a diesel version was made available, making it the first diesel powered road car to be offered on the open market, although its appeal was limited along with its sales.
This 1954 Phase II has been one family owned since new and comes with a good file of invoices and general history. It has covered only 72,800 miles in its 60 years to date, having been placed in dry storage in the family garage many years ago, although it is still recognised on the DVLA computer.
At some time in its life, an aftermarket 13amp water heater was fitted into its cooling system, presumably the owner being concerned about engine wear when starting on cold mornings. The vendor hopes to have it running again by the time of the sale, commenting that it is remarkably solid and in very original condition but will require recommissioning before use.
CATALOGUE AMENDMENT: Bidders are advised that the car is now running and the vendor has fitted 4 new brake cylinders so it stops as well....and the radio even works.

Description Austin 10 Gordon Pixie Vitesse
Registration AOY 63
Year 1935
Colour Blue/Black
Engine size 1,125 cc
Chassis No. G45238
Engine No. 1G46561
Launched in 1932, the 10/4 was Austin's best selling car in the 1930s and continued in production, with upgrades, until 1947.
It fitted in between the 'baby' Austin 7 which had been introduced in 1922 and the Austin 12, which was updated in 1931. It was powered by a four-cylinder side-valve 1125cc engine producing 21bhp and driving the rear wheels through a four-speed gearbox and open drive shaft to a live rear axle. Suspension was by half-elliptic springs all round and the brakes were cable operated. The basic model cost £155 and was capable of 55mph and 34mpg. It was rapidly followed by the Sunshine or De-Luxe with opening roof and leather upholstery at £168.
By 1933 the saloons had been joined by an Open Road tourer, a Conway cabriolet and a van. A sports model, the 65mph Ripley, joined the range in the following year. Mechanical upgrades for 1934 included a stronger chassis, synchromesh on the top two gears and 12 volt electrics. The first styling change came in late 1934 when the radiator's plated surround was replaced by one which was painted in body colour and given a slight slope. Synchromesh was added to second gear and semaphore type indicators were standardised. The four-light saloon was given the name Lichfield and got a protruding boot which enclosed the spare wheel.
The vast majority of the 290,000 Austin 10s had factory bodywork but a few escaped into the hands of the specialist coachbuilders, who at the time were struggling to find a market for their skills; the major manufacturers by then offering very comprehensive offerings at bargain basement prices.
Gordon and Co. Coachworks of Taunton Lane, Sparkbrook in Birmingham were however continuing to find customers and offered a range of up-market coachwork available on Austin and Standard chassis’.
This quaintly named Gordon Pixie Vitesse model was aimed squarely at the upper-middle classes who wished for an economical car with a touch of luxury. First registered in 1935, nothing is known of its early history until 1955 when the Buff log book shows it being taxed in the Croydon area. Its current registered keeper acquired the car in 2003 and has used it sparingly, 11 old MOTs being on file.
Reported as running and driving nicely, it is taxed until June 2015 and has been a popular attraction at Austin rallies where its rarity has caused much comment. Austin 10s have a very loyal following thanks to the excellent spares back-up, convenient size and the general ease of use. This one has the added bonus of standing out from the crowd.
