1947 BENTLEY Mk VI

Year : 1947
Make : Bentley
Model : Mk VI
Coachbuilder : Harold Radford
Body Type : Countryman Shooting Brake
Colour : Tudor Grey
Trim : Brown Leather Piped Beige
Condition : Good condition throughout.
Technical Data : Four speed manual gearbox, 6 cylinder in line configuration engine, upgraded from 4.25 litres displacement, 4257cc capacity to 4.9 litres displacement, 4887cc capacity. Drum brakes servo-assisted.

Bentley Motors (1931) Ltd made a complete departure from their former policy by announcing in 1946 the introduction of an entirely new Bentley that was factory built throughout. It was fitted with their design of "Standard" all steel bodywork, finished and furnished at Crewe where Bentley production still continues to this day. The tried and tested six cylinder 4256cc engine was retained, fitted with detachable aluminium alloy cylinder head with inserted valve seats. This was fitted to a frame chassis which was riveted with cruciform centre bracing and a box section pan to support the front suspension components. Lubrication was by a Bijur centralised system, operated by a foot pump situated just to the left of the steering column on right hand drive motor cars. It was advised that this pedal should be depressed once every one hundred miles. The manual gearbox had four forward gears with synchromesh on second, third and fourth gear. Despite the relatively high price tag when compared to other luxury cars available immediately after the war, the demand for this motor car was substantial. Sales were of such a brisk nature that customers were soon advised to be patient, with waiting lists for new Bentley Mk VIs becoming ever longer, with lead times stretching to over three years by the early 1950s. Production lasted until 1952 with more than 5,000 chassis finding their way to lucky new owners making it one of Bentleys most successful models ever. The vast majority of Bentley Mk VIs produced were fitted with the new standard steel coachwork from the factory, however in keeping with tradition special coachbuilt bodies were also available upon request. Chassis No B397BG was completed in late 1947 and first registered in January of 1948, fitted with woody style shooting brake coachwork by Harold Radford. This was the first of only eight cars built in this style by Radford on the Mk VI chassis and following testing by Rolls-Royce in the summer of 1948 it became Harold Radfords personal car and factory demonstrator. When producing such a car, Radford retained the standard Mk VI chassis, bonnet and radiator grill whilst the floor pan and scuttle were modified to suit the new style coachwork. Fitted with only front seats, the rear portion of the car consists of an expansive luggage storage area, finished with beautifully varnished wood panels. Chassis No B397BG was restored in the mid 1980s by Smiths of Southend, at the request of the then owner Mr Paul Kunkel. The car has subsequently changed hands twice since 1994 and more recently was upgraded with a late series Bentley S1 engine, with power steering and also a high ratio back axle. The original engine, Engine No B398B is still present and correct with the car too. It comes complete with copy factory chassis cards, history file, handbook and an old style logbook issued in 1953. We are delighted to be offering this very interesting and attractive Mk VI Bentley for sale, a car that we think will provide its next fortunate owner with a great deal of enjoyment.

1936 VOISIN C28 CHANCELLERIE
 £650,000.00
The C28 Voisin was in production between October 1935 and mid 1937 and was to be the last model of which the remarkable founder of the marque Gabriel Voisin, would have full control before spiralling costs of production and a downturn in the economy provoked a takeover which changed Avions Voisin dramatically. Targeted as a direct competitor to the Type 57 Bugatti the C28 specification featured a 3.3 litre, in line, six-cylinder sleeve valve engine, enlarged from the 3 litre of its C25 predecessor a four speed Cotal electromagnetic gearbox. Coachwork as ever with Voisin, was beautifully designed with the artistic influences of the Art Deco period enhanced by great attention to detail and originality of thought it incorporated  lightweight construction techniques learnt by Gabriel from his earlier work on aircraft.

The Constructor offered five bodywork styles, the fastback Aérodyne and Aérosport, and three streamlined sedans, the two door Cimier and two four-door models, the Clairiére and Chancellerie, as on offer. The principal difference between the four door cars was the treatment of the spare wheel, which on the Chancellerie was stored out of sight inside the boot of the car.

By the time production ceased in 1937 approximately forty C28 chassis had been built by the factory, of which a handful received coachwork by non-factory bespoke coachbuilders. The majority of cars received the exotic Voisin designed coachwork. There are now only eight surviving C28 examples worldwide of which four are of the Clairiére or Chancellerie style.

The car on offer, chassis number 53038 was ordered new with the additional option of the full width opening roof and scuttle ventilation and would have cost new over 85,000 Francs, 25% more than a Bugatti Type 57. The car was discovered in the 1980’s in France and subsequently underwent a thorough restoration of both cosmetics and mechanics to a very high standard at Colin Crabbe’s Antique Automobiles of Lincolnshire, UK. The restoration work extended to stripping the car down to its bare chassis and rebuilding the engine and Cotal gearbox.

Today this magnificent and extremely rare motorcar retains its original coachwork and all of the period details that add to its charm, from the busy elaborate dashboard equipped with a multitude of Jaeger instrumentation, the cast aluminium bodywork trim and exquisite door handles, every aspect has clearly been thought through, designed and then perfected.

Presented for sale from a private collection this motorcar represents an extremely rare opportunity to purchase an extraordinary automotive sculpture that would be a welcome entrant at any of the worlds top International Concours d’Elegance events.

1965 FERRARI 330 SHOOTING BRAKE - DK Engineering,

FROM THE SHOWROOM
OF

I apologise if we have already posted this selection before but we think it deserves another look.......So we give you

Ferrari 330 Shooting Brake. Coachbuilt by Viganle

1965 FERRARI 330 SHOOTING BRAKE
COACHWORK by VIGNALE
A True Show Stopper

The Ferrari 330 was the successor of the 250, being first introduced by Ferrari in 1963. The first 330 was a 250 GTE with a larger capacity engine, and then followed the 330 GTC,GTS and 2+2. Powered by a single-cam V-12 displacing 3,967cc and producing 300 bhp, power reached the rigid rear axle via a five-speed manual transmission. Front suspension was independent and brakes were discs all around.
This car, chassis 7963, was originally built by Ferrari in 1965 and delivered to the Belgian dealer, Garage Francorchamps, in December 1965. It was sold to Luigi Chinetti Jr, son of the famous East Coast Ferrari importer and racer. He returned the car to Italy and the body was removed and replaced by the renowned Ferrari Coachbuilders, "Vignale", of Turin. Luigi commissioned the eponymous owner of Vignale coachworks, Fredo Vignale, to fit the 330 with a shooting brake bodywork. Sadly this project was to be his last project before his death in 1969.
In an era where coach building was most prominent, this 330GT is the only example of a collaboration between Chinetti and Vignale that spawned a truly unique coach built classic. The project only retained the windscreen and the doors from the original aesthetic of the car, offering a unique styling approach to the exterior. It was one of just three 330 GTs that were rebodied for the Chinettis, but is unique being the only model to have this shooting brake body style. The car was shown by Vignale at the 50th Annual Turin Motor Show in 1968. After that it went to the United States with the Chinettis were it remained until 1996. It was in French ownership until it was sold again by Bonhams in 2006; latterly it made its way into the current owners care, a well-known car collector and world famous rock star.
Being the last car re-bodied by Vignale the car plays a very important part in their history. Due to its rarity and show stopping looks the car is highly eligible for the world's most prestigious events including Salon Prive, Villa d'Este and the Cartier Style et Luxe at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The car is in exceptional condition with fantastic service history. It is resplendent in its original colour Verde Metalizzatto , though the original Gold roof sections were repainted at Jay Kay's request. The original Campagnolo alloy wheels are unmarked. The unique Glass Hatch-back section allows access to the cavernous lather lined boot. The Tan interior, Nardi steering wheel and dash are faultless and include badging on the passenger side from Vignale saying 'Carrozzeria Vignale Examplare Unique', another feature unique to this car.
The car and its ownership history have been well documented in many Ferrari publications and the media including an article in the December 2001 of Classic & Sportscar Magzine.
This example signifies the era of bespoke car design and the collaboration between a commissioning owner and an established coachbuilder. Based one of the last standard Ferrari 330GT's, this example signifies the wealth of exclusivity brought about by the bespoke coach building era.

1930 MORGAN JAP 2 SPEED

Chassis #   M58
Engine #    LTOW/3/W683485
Model        Super Sports
Registration # JW547
Let’s face it, the three wheeler Morgan needs little or no introduction. Testimony to that, Morgan Motors re-started manufacture of the iconic tricycle in 2011, returning to it’s 1909 roots, showing it’s belief in this original product design 102 years on. The current model may have come along way from the early cars, however the original concept is still as much a favourite today as it was back in the 1930. You only need to look at the styling of the 1930s beatle-back which was the chosen shape of the 2011 reintroduction, proof that they got the styling right back in 1930! However, why anyone would choose a new one over an original is beyond me, other than play-it-safe practicalities like clean hands and some form of warranty I guess…
The current custodian took over the care of Frame Number M58 registration JW547 a little over 10 years ago, in January 2005, after her return to the UK from Sweden during the summer of 2004. Upon returning from her Scandinavian gallivanting she was inspect by the then Registrar of the Morgan Three Wheeler Club, who confirmed that Frame Number M58 was first registered on the 5th February 1930 with engine number LTOW/3/W683485. The letter then goes on to mention that M58 was exported to Scandinavia in 1974. Her original registration number JW547 was duly reassigned.
The fasts remain that JW547 is the Morgan connoisseur car of choice with the  Beetle-back body and two speed gearbox, after all who needs a reverse really! Her condition is not pristine, with nice lived in patina however certainly not tatty, yes there are a couple of house keeping jobs to complete but that part of the joy of ownership is it not.
The 1098cc water cooled JAP engine seams to run well, with a nice clean easy gear change. When the current owner took delivery back in 2005 the car was immediately sent to David A. C. Royle & Co Ltd where numerous jobs were undertaken, bills add up to about £3000.
A three wheel Morgan is an immensely useable, with a diverse set of potential motoring related disciplines available, from touring to racing or hill climbing -the choice is yours. I think Mr Osborn’s pension draw down was invented for opportunities such as this.
There is a pair of front non-original larger brakes with wheels available by separate negotiation.

1959 ASTON MARTIN DB2/4 Mk III

Background
The final refinement of the cars based on Claude Hill’s design and the Lagonda six cylinder twin overhead camshaft engine, is the DB Mark III. Launched in March 1957 at the Geneva Motor Show, it was available for export only until the London Motor Show in October of the same year. The model remained in production for about nine months after the DB4 was introduced. Of the 550 (approximately) cars produce over two thirds were exported to the U.S.A.
The chassis specification was very similar to the DB2/4 MkII. An option of Girling front disc brakes was available from the start of production but became a standard fitting after the first 100 cars were produced. Tadek Marek, the gifted engineer who had recently joined Aston Martin and would go on to design the next generation 6 cylinder engines and then the V8, virtually re-designed the 3.0 litre engine. This included a new block (with top seating Liners), a stiffer crankcase, a new crankshaft, oil pump and timing chain. Performance was equally improved by re-designing the induction and exhaust manifolds, whilst the ports are based on the DB3S engine, with larger valves and high lift camshafts. The majority of cars were fitted with the DBA engine, which was claimed to produce 162 b.h.p. at 5500 r.p.m., breathing though twin SU carburettors. A few (47) cars were supplied with the uprated DBD specification enginewith triple SU carburettors giving an advertised 180 bhp.
In appearance, the Mark III can be distinguished from the MkII at the front by the elegant shaped radiator opening adopted from the DB3S and consequently compound curves of the front of the bonnet, which can be traced on all subsequent models including the V8. And from the rear by the cathedral rear lights which give the car a much cleaner appearance. Opening rear quarter light windows are also fitted. Internally, the facia and instrument panel are completely different, the latter remaining in use up to the DB6 MkII. The standard transmission remained the same as the MkII, with overdrive as an option.
The Mark III is nearly 9” longer than the DB2 and weighs about 350 lb more, which is an increase of about 15%. However, more than 50% more power is available from the standard DBA, compared to the original LB6B engine. It was described by The Autocar (October 4th 1957), who recorded: 9.3 sec 0-60 m.p.h., 31.0 sec 0-100 m.p.h., 17.4 sec over a standing quarter mile and a maximum speed of 120 m.p.h.
Summary
Bought with enthusiasm, restored then owned and driven with enthusiasm, this is no museum piece. She is a lovely old car with a genuine patina that speaks of being used exactly according to David Brown’s vision for Aston Martin cars. The Mark III is the ultimate evocation of the DB 2/4 that the market has rightly recognised with their burgeoning values. But this is not a car to treat with kid gloves and tuck away in storage, this is a car to enjoy, to maintain and to cherish – cracking value and a cracking drive.
Vehicle History
A copy of the original build sheet notes the delivery of the car to its original owner Allan Wright of Ipswich Aircraft & Engineering Ltd of Colchester in Essex. The car was supplied by Langley Motors and the original colour scheme is described as Desert White with Black Leather.
The car has a very good ownership history with the car owned by an Aston Martin enthusiast, a Mr Gilham of Capel in Surrey from 1961 until it was bought by the current owner in 1974. For Gina, the wife of a renowned motoring historian and custodian of the Midland Motor Museum, this was very much “her car” and it has been enthusiastically entered into a variety of events over the past forty years whether taking part in Historic Rallies with her husband, Mike, or taking her place alongside other Aston Martins on the starting grid at Oulton Park.
But first came a comprehensive restoration, supervised by her husband, who also established an Ownership Log at the start of her ownership of the car and, alongside the record of invoices for restoration and subsequent major professional refurbishments to the head and steering box, it faithfully records the care and attention lavished on what was a clear family favourite. Over a hundred handwritten pages record everything from a “run around the block” to preparation for events like the Rally of the Tests. The full list of the events that have been enjoyed over the years is astonishing:
4th March 1989 The Pomeroy Trophy
17th September 1989 Raced at Oulton Park
15th September 1990 Raced at Oulton Park
2nd May 1992 AMOC Historic Rally
4th December 1993 Le Jog Classic Rally
14th May 1995 JDC Driving Tests
12th June 1995 AMOC Le Mans Tour – 3 laps of circuit
24th July 1997 AMOC Display at Silverstone
21st October 1998 AMOC Loire Tour
8th October 1999 Irish Rally
8th November 2001 Rally of the Tests
15th April 2007 MAC Classic Run
25th July 2007 Rotary Run
29th July 2007 MAC Classic Run
13th April 2008 MAC Classic Run
28th June 2008 Outer Hebrides Tour
30th July 2008 Rotary Run
25th April 2010 MAC Classic Run
17th August 2013 AMOC Shelsley Walsh Demonstration
27th April 2014 MAC Classic Run
Like every “Mum’s” car, 1790 actually served the whole family – the Irish Rally was supposed to be an education in navigation for Gina’s son but he enjoyed driving the car so much that he did most of the driving. And so it was on many of the other rallies where husband Mike would turn green when navigating – no clarification as to whether that was Gina’s enthusiastic driving or Mike reading the maps.
And of course, what family treasure would miss out on a family wedding and the car enjoyed a more leisurely outing when their daughter took the car to her wedding!
When she was purchased on 15th September 1974, the mileage recorded on the car was 93,615 and the mileage covered in the intervening period is a shade over 20,000 miles – this is a car that has been cherished and thoroughly enjoyed for the past 40years.
