1987 ASTON MARTIN V8 VANTAGE ZAGATO

£295,000
Aston Martin’s response to the super car battle of the late 1980s, between Ferrari’s 288 GTO and the Porsche 959, the V8 Vantage Zagato was produced in very limited numbers between 1986-1988. Fitted with a 435 bhp version of the Aston Martin 5.3 litre Vantage ‘X’ pack engine, mounted in a lightened chassis and shortened body by Italian Carrozzeria Zagato, the Vantage Zagato has subsequently gained a hardcore following in Aston Martin and collector circles. Timed on the legendry Mulsanne straight at Le Mans in 1986, the Vantage Zagato’s top speed was recorded at 186 mph, with 0-60 mph reached in 4.8 seconds. Production was limited to just 50 cars, of which 23 were completed in right hand drive.

The distinctive and striking car we are pleased to offer, fitted with upgraded suspension and sports exhaust, is one of just 2 coupes built and delivered in the distinctive Aston Martin Zagato Fury Yellow. This superb condition example has had only three collector owners from new and has covered a minimal 8,900 miles in total. Supplied new by Nicholas Mee the car has been maintained by Aston Martin and NM&Co. A substantial file accompanies the car, with the original tool roll and jack.

Prior to delivery this exceptional car will receive a full manufacturer scheduled service and 12 month MoT certificate.

ASTON MARTIN V8 Zagato

Overview

Looking to reignite a successful past relationship, Aston asked Italian coachbuilder Zagato to think up an exotic body which could be fitted to a lightened, shortened chassis. But the result divided opinion; gone were the luscious curves of Zagato’s Aston revamps of the 1960s and in their place were brutal straight lines and angled edges, with an extensive use of flush-fitting glass. Critics found it hard to get over the resemblance to contemporary Japanese sports coupés but, with only 83 ever built, they are surprisingly valuable today.
