1965 PORSCHE 356 SC (RHD)

139 - 1965 Porsche 356 SC – Right-hand Drive

Estimate: £50,000 - £60,000
Registration Number: UK Registered
Chassis Number: 129779
Outwardly very similar to the final Porsche 356Bs, the ultimate 356C model arrived in 1963, sporting four-wheel disc brakes - first seen on the 2.0 litre Carrera 2 - among numerous detail improvements. Engines available - both of 1.6 litres - were the 75bhp 'C' and 95bhp 'SC', the latter replacing the Super 90. Testing a 356C in 1964, Road & Track enthused over its comfort, quality and excellent performance, concluding: 'one would look a long time before finding a sports or GT car that offers more pure driving enjoyment'.
Chassis 129779 left the factory in May 1964, and was delivered to AFN on 29th June in Signal Red. It was not until February 1965 that the car was sold to a Mr Alderson of Rochdale. According to the Porsche Kardex (and documented on the Kardex), the car was delivered with a 'C' spec engine to AFN in 1964. AFN had two cars in stock: chassis 129779 and 127519. It would appear, both from the Kardex and as confirmed by PR services, that the later SC engine from 127519 was put into 129779. This offered potential buyers an incentive to purchase; after being held in stock for nearly a year at this point, AFN sold the car new, fitted with the later SC specification engine from 127519.

The current vendor purchased the car from Roger Bray Restorations in 2010. The previous owner had the car dry stored in his garage for 22 years. The vendor commissioned Roger to service the car and fit a new set of tyres, and apparently drove round in it for a year! The car then returned to Roger Bray for a repaint (invoices available in the cars file). It has since resided in the hands of an airline pilot, who has, as one would expect, fastidiously maintained it; today it remains in very good order indeed.
Having just returned from an MoT, a new exhaust system was fitted at Roger Brays in July this year. The vendor confirms the car performs extremely well indeed. The additional power of the SC and disc brakes makes this model arguably the best car to drive in the 356 model line-up.
This car has been well maintained during its current ownership, and represents a rare opportunity to acquire a right-hand drive 1965 SC. This 356 is complete with document file and MoT until August next year. Ready for immediate use.
