1938 BMW 320 CABRIOLET bu AUTHENRIETH

Purchased by the current owner in 1989 from a collector in Germany this 320 Cabrio by Authenrieth is one of only 1,835 examples built and has resided for the last 26 years in a prominent collection in Rome. During this time the car has been fastidiously maintained, regularly serviced and always garaged.
Even though the car has been used sparingly the engine was rebuilt a few years ago by a specialist and fitted with new pistons, rings and barrels; new main and big-end bearings; new oil pipes; new tappets; valves, valve springs, seats and guides. The crankshaft and flywheel have been machined and balanced; the engine block pressure and crack tested; and the cylinder head pressure tested. The gearbox has been rebuilt with new bearings and shims and since this work was completed the car has only covered some 130 Kms and will still need running in. In addition the body has had a recent high quality, bare-metal re-spray, and the brakes have been completely overhauled with new hoses, new master cylinder and new brake cylinders. The car also has new fuel pump, new spark plugs and ignition leads, and has had a full service and valve clearances checked.
Having been returned to road use the car is fitted with a new battery and tyres, the radiator also been been re-cored. The interior which remains in very good order was re-upholstered to original specification by the previous German owner, as well as the soft top.
Overall the car is in excellent order, many of the metal parts have been re chromed and it is supplied with a history file of bills and invoices as well as an extensive photographic record of the recent work. A well presented and rare pre War BMW it has factory and Automotoclub Storico Italiano paperwork confirming that the car retains its original 1,971cc six cylinder engine. Currently German registered with the Fahrzeugbrief documentation.
