The Diablo VT was introduced in 1993. Although the VT differed from the standard Diablo in a number of ways, by far the most notable change was the addition of all wheel drive, which made use of a viscous center differential (a modified version of LM002's 4WD system). This provided the new nomenclature for the car (VT stands for viscous traction). The new drivetrain could direct up to 25% of the torque to the front wheels to aid traction during rear wheel slip, thus significantly improving the handling characteristics of the car.

Other improvements debuting on the VT included front air intakes below the driving lamps to improve brake cooling, larger intakes in the rear arches, a more ergonomic interior with a revised dashboard, electronically adjustable dampers, four-piston brake calipers, power steering, and minor engine refinements. Many of these improvements, save the four-wheel drive system, soon transferred to the base Diablo, making the cars visually nearly identical.

1985 MERCEDES-BENZ 500 SL

This car has been entrusted to Investor Classics to restore to former glory. The car belonged to a prominent family and the partner of the previous owner wished for it to be restored to near new levels of finish.

The car was suffering from cosmetic corrosion to every panel and the interior had begun to decay, however, the chassis and bulkheads were rot free.

Upon stripping the car down for a full cosmetic restoration, we realised that at some point in its history, the SL had been resprayed a much darker blue than the original Diamontblau that we found inside the door cards and on the VIN plate. The decision was made to return the vehicle to the original factory colour.

In addition to the exterior restoration (as seen in the photographs), the interior leather has been completely sanded back and recoloured. The exhaust manifold gaskets and brake lines have been changed, the 'Mexican hat' alloys have been refurbished and a full service has been carried out.

This car is now one of the finest available in respect of body condition and is available for viewing immediately.

ABOUT THE MERCEDES R107 SL

The R107 SL was a 2-seat convertible/roadster with standard soft top and optional hardtop and optional folding seats for the rear bench.

Volume production of the first R107 car, the 350 SL, started in April 1971 alongside the last of the W113 'Pagoda' cars; the 350 SLC followed in October.

From July 1974 both SL and SLC could also be ordered with a fuel-injected 2.8L straight-6 as 280 SL and SLC. US models sold from 1976 through 1979 used the Bosch K Jetronic system, an entirely mechanical fuel injection system.

In September 1977 the 450 SLC 5.0 joined the line. This was a homologation version of the big coupé, featuring a new all-aluminium five-litre V8, aluminium alloy bonnet and boot-lid, and a black rubber rear spoiler, along with a small front-lip spoiler. The 450SLC 5.0 was produced in order to homologate the SLC for the 1978 World Rally Championship.

From 1981, the 107 series continued as the 280, 380 and 500 SL. At this time, the V8 engines were re-tuned for greater efficiency, lost a few hp and consumed less fuel- this largely due to substantially higher axle ratios that went from 3.27:1 to 2.47:1 for the 380 SL and from 2.72:1 to 2.27:1 for the 500 SL.

From September 198 Bosch KE Jetronic fuel injection was fitted. This system varied from the earlier, all mechanical system by the introduction of a more modern engine management "computer", which controlled idle speed, fuel rate, and air/fuel mixture. The final car of the 18 years running 107 series was a 500 SL painted Signal red, built on August 4, 1989; it currently resides in the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart, Germany.

1932 RILEY NINE PLUS ULTRA TOURER

Introduced at the 1931 Motor Show, the Plus Ultra Series of the Riley Nine featured a number of improvements, the most significant being the new dropped chassis frame. The 4 seat Tourer version continued the theme established with the successful Mk lV and Plus models which ran from 1929 31. The 1,087 cc four-cylinder engine had hemispherical combustion chambers and a crossflow head. The valves were operated by two camshafts mounted high in the crankcase through short pushrods and rockers. The unit simply wants to rev, and in turn, gives good acceleration. The 4-speed gearbox is a joy to use.

Apart from a handful of obscure, low-volume specialised sportscars, no other light car produced in similar quantities offered anything comparable, and this, of course, is why they are so sought after today. This superb original UK four-seat tourer was on holiday in South Africa for a while but returned to the UK last year. The car has a full set of weather equipment including tonneau and hood bag. It also is fitted with an electronic fuel pump and coil ignition, so starts readily. It has a good file including restoration photographs & invoices etc. This will make a truly lovely companion for a vintage loving family.

1979 PANTHER J72 4.2 OVERDRIVE

Splendid 1972 Panther J72. One of only 368 ever made in its 8-year production run. It has a lightweight aluminium frame and the renowned 6-cylinder 4.2 Jaguar engine with manual 4-speed and overdrive transmission. We have acquired this car from the third owner with 79,000 km on the clock. In 2000, the last owner had the complete engine, gearbox and overdrive revised by a recognized Jaguar specialist. All invoices pertaining to this have been kept. For cosmetic reasons a few years later the car was re-sprayed in its original colour, resulting in a lovely finish. The interior was also refurbished using the original colour scheme of tan leather trim and green carpets. The car also has chrome wire wheels, boot rack, black linen soft-top and tonneau. Maintenance has been exemplary over years. The car comes with the added bonus of a well-documented history. This Panther J72 is truly one of the best!
