1968 BRISTOL 410

The Bristol 410 was launched in 1967 with a 4.2 litre V8 from Chrysler, producing 250 BHP and 340 ft/lbs of torque when new. These were the last of the 5.2 Bristols to be built before the 411 was released a 6.3 V8. The styling remained true to the Bristol tradition of being quitely understated with only motoring aficianados what was before them.
This 410 was despatched from Bristol Cars Ltd on the 8th of May 1969 to Anthony Crook Motors Ltd, who supplied it to the first owner, a Mr. Kenneth Stevenson.

Originally supplied in blue, the car was repainted by Bristol Cars to match the colour of the local stone in Malta, where the owner lived. He kindly provided a sample of this stone to Bristol Cars to ensure the colour match was perfect. Returning to Britain in 1980 with approximately 20,000 miles  on the odometer and stayed in Mr Stevenson’s ownership until July 1984.

In August 2012, CBY 267G was handed to Bristol Cars for a complete restoration, which included a through brake overhaul (replacing all callipers, pads, discs, and lines). The fitment of new shock absorbers plus various service, maintainance and electrical items. The car then benefited from a bare metal repaint in Lancia Blue, a shade or two lighter than Bristol’s Midnight Blue. The underside was throughly cleaned, wire brushed and wax oiled and the bumpers and other bright work items re chromed. Importantly, the original all alluminium coach work is arrow straight with perfect shut lines.

A complete interior retrim, with the exception of the leather seats which were in exceptional condition was carried out. Carpets, headlining, Webasto roof, dash top, rear parcel shelf and boot lining were all returned to their original pattern.

The front and rear screens were fitted with new rubbers, and all door seals and fur flex draught excluders replaced with new parts. The wood work was removed stripped, repaired as necessary and polished. The front seats were dismantled, stripped and re-padded with the leather being re-connolised to the original colour and fed with hide food to regain its suppleness and preserve the patina.  Whilst having the dash refitted a modernised period radio with i pod connection was fitted.
In short, no expense has been spared to bring this car to its current first class condition whilst endeavouring to retain originality. Fully documented with suoerb and complete history file. One of only 79 produced, and at 68000 miles has to be the finest Bristol 410 in existance!

MODEL HISTORY
Project RS Cosworth was defined by Stuart Turner in the spring of 1983. He had recently been appointed head of Ford Motorsport in Europe, and he realised right away that Ford was no longer competitive in this area.

1987 FORD SIERRA RS COSWORTH

Turner got in touch with Walter Hayes, at the time the vice-president of public relations at Ford, to get support for the project. Hayes had earlier been the driving force behind the development of the Ford GT40 that won Le Mans in 1966, and the Cosworth DFV engine that brought Ford 154 victories and 12 world championships in Formula One during the 1960s and 1970s. Hayes found the project very appealing and promised his full support.

Turner then invited Ken Kohrs, vice-president of development, to visit Ford’s longtime partner, the automotive company Cosworth, where they were presented a project developed on Cosworth’s own initiative, the YAA engine. This was a twin cam, 16-valve engine based on Ford’s own T88 engine block, better known as the Pinto. This prototype proved an almost ideal basis for the engine Turner needed to power his Group A winner.

Therefore, an official request for a turbocharged version (designated Cosworth YBB) capable of 180 HP on the street and 300 HP in race trim, was placed. Cosworth answered positively, but they put up two conditions: the engine would produce not less than 150 kW (204 HP) in the street version, and Ford had to accept no fewer than 15,000 engines. Turner’s project would only need about 5,000 engines, but Ford nevertheless accepted the conditions. The extra 10,000 engines would later become one of the reasons Ford also chose to develop a four door, second generation Sierra RS Cosworth.

EQUIPMENT
Bodyside mouldings, integral front air dam, colour coded door mirrors, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, colour coded lockable fuel filler cap, bonnet cooling vents, halogen headlamps, integral front driving lamps, colour coded bumpers with front moulded overriders, single plane rear wing spoiler, tinted glass all round, tailgate wash/wipe, laminated windscreen, extended centre console, cigar lighter, quartz digital clock, fascia light dimmer, leather gearknob, leather three spoke sports steering wheel, 3-speed heater fan , cassette storage, electronic sound system (model ECU2) with power amplifier, electric aerial, Recaro Sports front seats, split folding rear seats, tilt and slide sunroof, tachometer with turbo boost gauge, trip recorder, anti-locking brake system with failure warning light, electric front windows.

EXTERIOR
Few car command respect and admiration like the exterior of this RS Cosworth. Finished in rare Moonstone Blue, the paintwork boasts a deep gloss shine from the original, unrestored factory finish. The car has no rust or corrosion whatsoever. All exterior trim is in excellent order as is the original security etched glass, lights and badges, free from damage and age related deterioration. The engine bay is incredible in its originality and condition, commensurate of the car’s very low mileage. The original DEALER Number plates are on the car as is the dealer sticker in the rear. Sensational throughout.

INTERIOR
The interior of this RS Cosworth is incredible well preserved. Finished in Ford Roma Grey (code S2), the Recaro seats and door trim are in as new condition. The carpets are spotless and have remained free from wear. All interior equipment and trim is original, functional and free from any modification or additions. The dashboard is immaculate having suffered no cracks or discolouration. The standard electronic sound system with power amplifier remains as Ford intended and provides excellent sound through the original speakers. All the Ford manufacturer stickers are in place. A fantastic 1980’s interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original RS Cosworth powerplant warrants little introduction. Fitted with the standard 2.0 Dual Over Head Cam (DOHC) with Garrett AiResearch T3 turbocharger and intercooler, the motorsport pedigree of this car is unmistakable. With an impressive output of 204HP allowing the car accelerate smoothly through 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 149mph, this truly is a recipe to set the heart racing. The low mileage is clearly evident when changing through the gears with crisp, tight and precise progression up and down the range. A wonderful drive.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The standard 15 X 7 inch RS Sierra Cosworth alloy wheels are spotless and shod with recent Toyo Proxes tyres all round, with excellent tread remaining. Diagonally split hydraulic circuits, anti-lock braking assisted 28.3cm ventilated discs up front and 27.3cm discs at the rear bring the car to a sure and steady halt. The spare wheel and tyre appear unused.

HISTORY FILE
A truly incredible and complete history file waits to for the new owner of this legendary and historically important vehicle. Supplied new on the 13.02.87 by Ford Main Dealers, Hooleys of Nottingham, this example is perfect for the discerning collector. It has all the original Book pack and supplements with original correct and stamped service book. It also comes with a bound file of bills and receipts plus all keys etc. We also have details of all four owners from new. The first of whom had the car for 17 years.

A really enjoyable investment and increasingly rare and hard to find as good as this.

HPI Clear, Fresh MOT at point of sale.

1996 Caterham Seven
 1700 Super Sprint
Left Hand Drive

Factory built car with only 26,300 miles.
British Racing Green wings & nose with polished aluminium bodywork.
Fitted with the popular Ford 'Kent' crossflow 1700cc 135 BHP engine.
Twin side-draught Weber 40 DCOE carbs fitted with K&N filters.
Caterham stainless steel exhaust with heat shield.
Five-speed gearbox.
Live rear axle.
Minilite style alloy wheels with Yokohama tyres.
Caterham individual adjustable cloth bucket seats with matching head rests.
Caterham four point racing harness belts for both driver & passenger.
FIA spec roll bar.
Chrome headlamps.
Flush fitting fuel filler cap.
Full weather equipment: side screens, hood & rear half tonneau cover.

Overall the car is in excellent condition, no issues. Runs great, sounds good, excellent driver. No body damage or chassis corrosion, mechanically sound. Electrics all functional. Alloy wheels are mint, tyres good. Some small signs of wear & tear, to be expected of any 19 year old car, but very nice overall.

A great car for driving. If you've never driven a Caterham, and you enjoy fast driving, then you simply must own one of these - it's a 'bucket list' item! Almost telepathic in their responses, Caterhams are just about the nearest thing to a single-seater racing car you can drive on the road. The 1700 Super Sprint provides a nice combination of power and usability without the risk of getting yourself into too much trouble if you're new to this type of car - an ideal first Seven, and probably the closest, in spirit and feel, to an original Lotus Seven Series 3.

Recently converted by myself to left hand drive (see here for more details on this process). LHD Caterhams are very rare, especially in the 'affordable' price range. Of course, I expect the buyer of this car will be outside the UK, and I can assist with shipping to most destinations, at cost. Please contact me for more details.

Price - £13,500
