1952 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE DELUXE SPLIT SCREEN
Documented Matching Numbers car!!

Germany is a country with a great love of the automobile. When many people think of the Volkswagen Beetle, they think of the flower power generation, of bright groovy colours, and the 1960’s, but the basic design dates back to the 1930’s. If you consider Doctor Ferdinand Porsche was inspired by other manufacturers of rear engine rear wheel drive cars of that time, then we begin to fathom the deep history behind people’s car.

This early example of the Beetle shows the humble beginnings Volkswagen truly had at the end of WWII. For some people, this would be THE Beetle to own due to its age and wonderful condition.

There is really nothing quite like a good split Beetle.
The reactions you get with a split are so much stronger than that of any other model, it is truly the icon that started it all, and the simplicity and beauty of the design is a major reason that these are highly sought after.
The rarity factor as well is a big part of it...the older cars were built in far smaller numbers than during the later years.

This example is about as iconic as you can get... a 52 Deluxe with the crotch cooler vents. The crotch coolers are a short production item, from 51-2 and on Deluxe models.
They work quite well actually too...getting a little breeze in the lower part of the interior on a hot day is nice!

This car was tastefully restored in Finland a few years back with a great eye for detail, it is an extremely clean car inside and out.

The interior is very nice on this car as well, beautiful colours. You only have to look at the photos to see the detail that has gone into this car.

Such a great looking car!

The "Popes Nose" license plate light, the small glass taillights and the grooved chrome bumpers.

Nice fit and finish to the car overall, paint looks great, the body is nice and smooth.

Grooved semaphores are functional.

Wheels are the correct 16" steel wheels with excellent bias ply tires.
These 16" wheels are really tough to find these days and are getting quite expensive...
finding a split with them on it is a big bonus, may have been swapped over the years to 15" wheels as tires are much easier and cheaper to find than the 16's

Under the front hood is clean and tidy just like the rest of the car, it is housing the correct flat fuel tank with a large diameter fuel cap.

The engine room is no exception and looks very clean and proper, the engine has the correct early carburettor and seamed fan shroud. The cyclone air cleaner is also era-correct as is the flat top distributor cap.

The underneath is very clean and looks like new.

Everything works on this car as it should, it is also very enjoyable to drive.

Please have a look at the many detailed photos in the link below, if you require anymore just let me know.

1952 HRG 1500

The HRG Engineering Company also known as HRG was a British car manufacturer based in Tolworth, Surrey. Founded by Major Edward Halford, Guy Robins and Henry Ronald Godfrey, its name was created from the first letter of their surnames.

Mr Godfrey already gained experience in the motor trade with GN cycle cars which he started in 1910 together with Frazer Nash. When Mr Nash started Frazer Nash in the late twenties, Godfrey approached Halford and later Robins, and HRG was born in 1935.

The idea was to develop a sports car like in the earlier days when sports cars were still genuine, uncompromised by the demand for more luxury of the main public. Bentley, Aston Martin and even Frazer Nash, all caved in to develop more comfortable tourers when HRG stayed true to the initial concept.

In 1938, the company announced the 1100cc model and later even the 1500cc with Singer powerplants. Both models were driven by OHC Singer engines and replacing the OHV Meadows units from before.

Although the company experienced with special versions like the Le Mans and the aerodynamic cars, the two main models were the 1100 and the 1500cc open tourers until 1956.

They are quite famous for participating in events like the Le Mans 24hours, Alpine rally, Silverstone and Spa Francorchamps.

HRG produced cars their thoroughbred sports cars from 1935 until 1956. They made 241 cars in total where 225 believed to have survived. Many of which are still used today in various motorsport events.

The company made a profit every year until they closed the doors in 1966 as an engineering company. They worked for Volvo and made a prototype Vauxhall VX 4/90-powered sports car.

The HRG we have for sale is a 1952 1500cc sports car. The car has been in the family since 1964 and even invoices before that date are available. The son had the car restored by Roach Manufacturing in the late ‘00s where they restored everything from the chassis up. The bodywork has been repaired, the original type Singer engine fitted and everything on the car has been overhauled.

All of this results in a perfectly restored car, ready for you to take on a trip, rally or even a race. The car hasn’t been driven much since the restoration and is looking for a new owner who will love the car as much as the previous owners did.

Do you want to own a completely restored, no-nonsense sports car? This might be the car for you!
