1969 WOLSELEY HORNET

In the original Wolseley Hornet sales brochure the car was described as a small car with a big inside, big enough for family motoring, big enough for long distance touring where comfort and luggage capacity are essentials. The Hornet was also described as nimble, in traffic there is acceleration that leaves uncertainty behind and braking that reassures. On the open road, from A to B, the ability to cruise at high speed and to corner well makes the Hornet hard to beat. The exceptional economy of B.M.C mini motoring and the altogether outstanding road performance that goes with it are now so well-known as to become significant of a new and refreshing way of motoring. Lively acceleration, excellent road holding and cornering characteristics, together with compact dimensions to facilitate manoeuvring and parking are features which have never before seen so effectively combined in a four seat saloon.
On the road our Wolseley Hornet, ALX165H drives as described in the models sales brochure. Its rebuilt engine does offer impressive performance with very good acceleration and the Wolseley really does handle superbly. The Hornet has arrived with current MOT test until December 2015 but will be fully prepared in our workshop leaving with a full 12 months MOT, full service, function check and warranty. The Wolseley has a smooth gear change, brakes feel very sharp and the steering very direct and correct. According to previous MOT's the Hornet has only covered 1300 miles since 2010 and is certainly a car capable of regular or even daily use.
ALX165H presents well with a stunning, gleaming paint finish. The panels are straight, there are no rust blemishes showing and the overall finish is first class. The paintwork is of a very high standard, chrome work is largely original and very bright and the Wolseley has a period rood rack fitted that really finishes the car off nicely. The seats have been re-trimmed at some stage and we have the Hornet booked in with our local trimmer for a new headlining, carpet set and some detailed trim improvements. Our asking price includes the upholstery work but the car can be viewed and secured prior to this work being carried out. Please call first to make an appointment as the vehicle may be with the upholsterer.

1950 FORD V8 PILOT - CLASSIC & SPORTSCAR CENTRE

" CLASSIC OF THE DAY "
Featuring

1950 FORD V8 PILOT

The Ford Pilot was manufactured at the famous Ford Dagenham Works between 1947 and 1951. Only 21487 units were built and the luxury Saloon featured standard equipment such as huge Butler chrome headlamps and a Clayton Dewandre heater. The Pilot also featured a Jackall jacking system, Bakelite dashboard, ashtray and steering wheel. This beautiful, show standard Ford V8 Pilot has come to us from a collector in Stonehaven, known in Scottish classic car circles for detailing and then presenting ‘concours’ cars at shows and events. The Ford V8 has come to us in part exchange, to enable the last owner to concentrate on his Jaguar collection but during his 12 month ownership, in the region of £3000 has been spent on detailing, cosmetic improvements and a brand new headlining.
This particular V8 Pilot is in fact the very best example we have owned. Over the years we have had several and this is really something quite special having being subject of a major 18 month restoration that began in 2002. At the time, the car was owned by the world famous author, Louis de Bernieres (Captain Corelli's Mandolin and Birds without Wings) and a reported £17,000 was spent on a high quality professional rebuild carried out by a specialist in the South East of England. The Ford was treated to a brand new engine, spin on oil filter conversion, complete re-wire and conversion to 12 volt system, re-commissioned brakes and suspension, electronic ignition, new radiator, uprated dynamo and the body stripped down, fully rebuilt and re-painted. The upholstery was treated to new Burgundy leather, Wilton carpets and the car still retains its original Bakelite dash, steering wheel and period radio.
Since restoration the Ford has been used on a regular basis, mainly for shows and classic car runs. The car hasn't cover high mileage, but enough to prove what a reliable and robust vehicle this is. The car is a true delight to drive with a fabulous engine holding excellent oil pressure. The engine runs perfectly, sounds superb and offers great performance and is quiet and comfortable at 60/70 mph. The column change gearbox is quiet, smooth and does not crunch gears, the brakes pull up straight and the steering is delightful. The condition of the exterior and interior both match the excellent mechanical condition. The body is straight with gleaming, high quality paintwork and over the past year several items have been re-chromed and some replaced to include door handles. The upholstery is lovely with a new headlining, beautiful leather trim and excellent carpets. The Pilot has an exceptional, detailed engine bay that has had hours of preparation. The engine unit itself gleams, the bulkhead is superb, as are all the under bonnet ancillaries. The boot area is immaculate, as is the underside.
Our Ford comes with a detailed photographic record of the restoration, original instruction book, recent invoices and a magazine that features and reports on this stunning car. The Ford is top class in every respect and has been finished to a very high standard and certainly will not disappoint. Finding a better example will be very difficult and opportunities to purchase Ford V8 Pilot's in this condition do not come up very often.
