1972 ALFA ROMEO MONTREAL (RHD) - SOUTHWOOD CAR COMPANY

THROUGH THE SHOWROOM DOOR
OF
Southwood Car Company

1972 ALFA ROMEO MONTREAL (RHD)

VIEWING BY APPOINTMENT ONLY PLEASE
We have in stock and are in the process of preparing, a genuine UK RHD Alfa Romeo Montreal (Type 105.65). This example is one of just one hundred and eighty manufactured. It is presented in excellent condition with Alfa Rosso paintwork and black interior. This is a rare and great example with good history and originality.

The legendary V8 engine is being fully rebuilt, incorporating upgrades to the timing chain guides, tensioner and the water pump bearings, which have been historically known to be potential problems areas.

In addition to this, the engine is being fully lightened and balanced and fitted with new bespoke forged billet pistons manufactured for us by JE Pistons in California - they are a thing of beauty! Many rebuilds are carried out using non standard / 'similar' profile pistons, we didn't want to do this with ours, we wanted the correct pistons. It is not the cheapest way of doing it, but it is the right way. The original cylinder heads have been fitted with new valve guides and three angled hardened valve seats for unleaded petrol.

We are just about to commence the process of reassembly now the pistons have arrived and the machine work is complete. With the rebuild, lightening and balancing, correct bespoke pistons, head work and attention to detail we are putting into this engine it will be far superior to any 'ordinary' Montreal, if there is such a thing!

With values of Montreal's soaring this represents a great opportunity to acquire an excellent RHD example and enjoy your investment.

1964 ALFA ROMEO TZ1 - FISKENS

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
Countdown to Christmas
So the big day is almost here and Santa still has a little bit of space left on his sleigh, and I know for a fact that today's car is one of Santa's all time favorites so you may have to fight him off if you want it.
1964 ALFA ROMEO TZ1

One of only 124 examples built by Alfa Romeo and clothed by Zagato.
This Alfa Romeo TZ was manufactured on the 10th December 1964 and was sold to Monsieur Gaspin who later sold the car to Laborde. Laborde raced the car in historic events throughout Europe during his long term ownership including the Tour Auto in 1997.
The car was comprehensively restored in France in 2001 and we subsequently sold 046 in 2003 to the previous owner who campaigned it in multiple races and rallies within Europe.
He entrusted Gelscoe Motorsport to maintain and prepare 046, these works including returning the car to its original livery, which it is seen in today. Currently fitted with a competition twin plug motor though included with the car is an original single plug engine. Fully prepared with current HTP papers, 046 is welcome at all the significant historic races and rallies.

1972 ALFA ROMEO JUNIOR ZAGATO 2- Litre HISTORICS @ BROOKLANDS

A final look at a classic from today's Historics Auction at Brooklands Museum.
You can't deny  the colour on our choice today is eye catching if nothing else. So here is a little sporty number in a pretty green dress.

1972 ALFA ROMEO JUNIOR ZAGATO

In 1969, Zagato produced the exquisitely styled GT 1300 Junior Z that was of a completely new design to anything that had preceded it. By fitting the standard production Alfa Romeo 1290 cc twin cam engine and five speed gearbox into the body, built upon a Zagato space-frame, constructed for lightness and strength, the Junior Z not only looked good but also performed well with a top speed of 109mph being achieved. The individualistic design meant a high price resulting in only 1500 units being manufactured.

We are delighted to offer a wonderful and rare example of the Alfa Romeo Junior Zagato that has been in long term ownership since 1988. On purchase, the Junior Zagato was used for about one year and then stored until recently, whereupon a full nut and bolt restoration was undertaken and has just been completed. A large history file that covers the current ownership records all correspondence and invoices and as the owner is very particular an ethos of a 'no expense spared policy' this has resulted in the exceptional motor car you see today. Not only does it look attractive but it operates exactly as designed, with the advantage of the larger 2.0litre Alfa Romeo engine that produces much more torque than the original unit; it is important to note that the rarity value of this Zagato far outweighs the fact that the engine has been upgraded. The Alfa Romeo AR 241 verde coloured coachwork is in exceptional condition and follows into the finely detailed engine bay. A look on the undersides confirms the quality of this car, with that also in exceptional condition. The interior has been re-trimmed with tan leather seats and new carpets. The electrically operated hatch has had the motor overhauled and operates easily and quickly. The car starts easily and displays no evidence of smoking, hardly surprising given the rebuild. Maintenance is relatively easy and cost effective as there are several UK specialists catering for the Alfa Romeo models of this period.

The Junior Zagato is UK registered and is accompanied by an MoT test certificate valid until May 2015 and an historic road fund licence, enabling the lucky new owner to drive away from the sale. With period coach built motor cars becoming more and more sought after, what better way to enter such ownership than with this beautifully styled Italian motor car which is available at a very reasonable estimate.
