Emerging from many years of slumber, this LHD example of Donnet Zedel's small tourer is believed to be an ex-police car and will require recommissioning before returning to the road. Finished in dark blue with black wings and beige interior (retrimmed at some point) the car is understood to have been imported in 1979 before passing to the previous keeper in 2004. In the current ownership for the past year, the car has remained in dry storage and it is not known when it was last driven.
The paintwork has some chips around the bonnet opening and the wing edges have similar scuffs but overall the bodywork appears to be in reasonable condition under its coating of dust. The interior should respond well to a clean and the hood appears serviceable. Bearing a supplier's plate from the Garage de la Cathedrale in Meaux, Paris, this charming survivor is offered with Swansea V5 document and is MoT exempt

In 1901 Zurcher and Luthi of Switzerland started a factory making motorcycle engines. These were sold under the name Zedel. In 1906, the pair built their first car under the same name.
The factory did not produce many cars. When the First World War broke out in 1914, a total of between 300 and 400 cars had been sold. In 1918, the Zedel make was taken over by another Swiss, Donnet.
From then on, the cars were sol under the name Donnet-Zedel. In 1927, Donnet's factory relocated to Nanterre, and the make just became known as Donnet.
The lastcar rolled off the production line in 1933. In 1935, the company was sols to Simca.
Mot of the cars sold under the names Zedel, Donnet-Zedel and Donnet were powered by four cylinder engines. The Zedel had a capacity of 3168cc, the Donnet Zedel 1100 or 2120cc. One of the most remarkable models was a Donnet with a 2540cc six cylinder sidevalve engine.

1960 VOLKSWAGEN TYPE II 23 WINDOW SPLIT SCREEN SAMBA DELUXE - COYS AUCTION

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"

1960 VOLKSWAGEN TYPE II 23 WINDOW SPLIT SCREEN SAMBA DELUXE

225 - 1960 Volkswagen Type II 23 Window Split Screen Samba Deluxe

Estimate: £82,000 - £92,000
Registration Number: 8446 EL
Chassis Number: 609715

The bus was purchased by the current keeper from the original and first owner in 1986; Victor and Stella Whiffen of Bridport, Dorset with only 50,000 miles from new and still in its original paint. The owner informs us before the long journey home, he and the Whiffens had a cup of tea in the camper and chatted about the bus and about one of the holidays they had in it. They had it shipped to South Africa for a four week touring holiday, then had it shipped back to the UK. The owner recalls 'just before we said our goodbyes, I asked them if the sun roof still worked ok? The answer came back with no hesitation, 'we don't know as we have never opened it! ''
From 1986 to 2000 it was used for holidays and going to VW shows, completing another 20,000 miles before being dry stored until 2007 prior to the meticulous restoration.
From 1987 the vendor attended many VW shows, throughout the UK and Europe, always looking for original new old stock parts for the bus and managed to collect many rare parts for a future restoration. Also being a member of the split screen club since 1986, many specialists trusted to undertake the restoration were familiar faces.
One of the first jobs was to buy a frame to be able to turn bus on its side, in order to get to the underside. Cleaning the soft underseal with paraffin revealed very little rot and a lot of original factory paint! All the underside was media blasted and minimal welding was needed.
The top side of the body was soda blasted and media blasted where needed. The rear door and engine lid were soda blasted and no rot was found. It was left to a good friend to prepare and paint the body and had just finished painting a VW Hebmuller.
The interior was completely restored. Handmade wool head liner, original interior panel cards were carefully cleaned, rear seats and curtains were remade in a period look material (all original seat covers and curtains remain). The front bench seat has been recovered in original colour matched leather and all the Devon furniture is complete, including gas light and shade, gas burner in door, so-cool box and water tank.
All the mahogany wood has been hand French polished and new as original 9” square lino floor tiles have been laid.
All original chrome has been rechromed, including front VW badge, interior door handles and horn grill under the bus while all outside chrome door handles are new old stock including fuel door lock. All the aluminium deluxe trim is the original and has been polished.
The only item added to this very original bus is a set of new old stock front safari screens and all fixings, including new old stock wiper arm disengage mechanism.
The original engine has been completely rebuilt and a new old stock exhaust was powder coated in near original colour.
The owners aim was to refurbish as much of the original parts as possible and not to take the originality away from this beautiful bus.
This is only one of five known 23 window deluxe buses with original Devon interiors and one of two with rare 'special order' mahogany interiors and as you would expect after such a meticulous restoration is described as being in excellent order in every respect. Now showing only 70,000 miles from new and in the ownership of only 2 keepers from new it is finished in sealing wax red and beige grey with a contrasting blur grey and dark grey interior this has to be one of the rarest and finest examples in existence today.

1954-1967 VOLKSWAGEN Kombi/Camper

Overview

The initial idea for a VW-based van was in 1947, but it wasn’t until 1950 that the officially designated Type 2 appeared. Many different variants were available but the most popular and numerous were the Kombi (Kombinationskraftwagen – a windowed combination of passenger and cargo vehicle, usually referred to as a ‘bus’) and the Camper. Westfalia created most of the latter. Nicknamed ‘Split’ or ‘Splittie’ due to their divided windscreen, VW updated the mechanical side of the vehicles constantly while leaving their looks mostly untouched... at least until 1968.

1961 FIAT VIOTTI GRANLUCE - COYS AUCTIONS

We are aware of a technical problem with the following post and are trying to rectify the matter

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
 1961 FIAT VIOTTI GRANLUCE
221 - 1961 Fiat Viotti Granluce

Estimate: £12,000 - £14,000
Registration Number: Italian Registered
Chassis Number: 1115925
However, 1956 saw the unexpected and premature passing of its founder Vittorino Viotti, at just 55 years of age. The company's management passed to his cousin, Francesco Viotti, who extended production to new models, adding some affordable sporty models to the Giardinetta line, based on mass-produced Fiat models: first the Coupé based on the 600, then the Gran Turismo 1100/1200. This was another excellent intuition, but an even better one was that of offering the small 600 with a more spacious chassis than the Coupé, guaranteeing comfort for four passengers without giving up the attractive lines designed by the Turin designer Giovanni Michelotti. Thus another milestone in the story of Carrozzeria Viotti was created: the Granluce. The name, which means “great light”, referred to the large windows and the unique “hugging” windscreen, that gave a forward visual angle that was much better than the average. The Granluce was the perfect formula for customers wanting a contemporary model that was economical but exclusive, sporty but comfortable and far better than the mass-produced Fiat it was based on.
The 600 Granluce Viotti remained in production for almost a decade, updated according to the new fashion trends of the time, from the more “Americanized” version of 1957, with its tail fins, to the more sober and rational 1960 model, with tauter lines, better overhangs, a pronounced tail, and a curious feature, a large – and fake – chrome front grill, which was entirely useless since the engine was in the back.
This particular example, restored in 2005, having brand new paint, new interior and upholstery, with rebuilt mechanicals, is described by the vendor as being in lovely overall condition. Sold with its original Italian Libretto.
With approximately 100 examples built and less than 20 still surviving today, this represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire an incredibly special vehicle.

1937 FORD CLUB CABRIOLET HOT-ROD - PERCIVAL MOTOR COMPANY

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
1937 FORD CLUB CABRIOLET  HOT ROD
£29,995 And now for something COMPLETELY different!
Take a look at the pictures of this stunning car. It is a 1937 Ford Club Cabriolet Hot Rod built by Kris Brown, a well known builder of these specials, for his own personal use using a body by RodLine. The engine is a IROC 350 Chevy lump with Lingenfelter fuel injection and a chipped ECU which pumps out in the region of 375 BHP and is mated to a 700 R4 four speed automatic gearbox.
The chassis features reproduction chassis rails and the rest is engineered and fabricated. The suspension is Jaguar based front and rear and everything is beautifully constructed and works perfectly. The wheels are Budnik Formosas and the steering wheel is the same make. It has a stainless steel exhaust and a stainless petrol tank.
A friend of mine, a enthusiastic and long term builder of rods, purchased the car ten years and completed the interior to a beautiful standard including fitting BMW front seats, central locking, a high end sound system and having the car trimmed to an exemplary standard. It has a heater, electric windows and there are seat belts fitted front and rear.
This car drives beautifully, it sounds fantastic, it looks out of this world and yet it docile enough to go to Sainsburys but has serious performance if you so chose. We are told that it does 28 mpg on a run as well!
Speaking of runs, the Ford has done 18,000 miles since it was built including many runs to Norway, Switzerland, Holland, Germany, and France as well covering a large part of the UK such is its ease of use and its reliability.
This is a stunning machine which is beautifully built, drives superbly, sounds awesome and should upset your neighbours too boot!!

Snippets (Ford V8 1932-38)
All these Ford V8's are collectable and the general remarks applied to wagons and open carrs apply. Typically however, the former are the ones to look for. Hoping to leap frog Chevy's Six Ford brought the wonderful little V8 out only four years after the launch of the Model A, and it was tremendous buy for the money. The cast iron flathead gave at least 78mph.Streamlining began with the much swoopier 1933 models, which also had a longer wheelbase. Horsepower was 85bhp by 1934 and the cars even sleeker. A much smaller V8 was added beginning with 1937, when styling took another turn, now very rounded and smooth indeed. The early V8 years brought fairly swift change by Ford standards with body design evolving dramatically (it was all steel by 1937) engines growing in power and time-honored styles like the roadster and convertible sedan being phased out
