Unique Shoot Bus Project

The Esarco eight-wheel drive (8WD) was developed in the early 1980's by Major Michael Somerton-Rayner.  The first Esarco was based on standard Land Rover 110 engine, transmission and axles. The front and rear axles steer - in opposite direction - which made for a tight turning circle, a concept seen on the AEC Road Train as far back as the 1930's.

Two full-time four-wheel drive Land Rover transfer cases were used, mounted back to back with the first driving the second through their power take-offs by a dog-clutch and a short drive shaft. The first transfer case drove axles one and three and the second transfer case drove axles two and four. The axle differentials being offset, the prop-shafts could pass neatly over the intervening axles on their way to the appropriate differentials. All in all there were six differentials - four in the axles and two in the transfer cases.
Early Esarco’s used the Land Rover 3.5L V8 engine. On the road, the second transfer case was disconnected and the vehicle became an 8×4. Off-road, the second transfer case was connected to the first, making an 8×8. The Land Rover transfer cases contained a "centre diff'" for full-time four-wheel drive and were equipped with diff' locks.
Land Rover coil-spring suspension was also adopted from the Land Rover 110. A ladder-frame chassis and a simple forward-control cab structure completed the picture.

At some stage the concept was taken up by Stewart and Stevenson of the USA, becoming the Esarco SS300. Part-time 4WD transfer cases were adopted and pictures show free wheel hubs fitted to axles 1 and 4. Engine options became a 7.3L V8 diesel engine or a 6-cyl petrol engine.
Although intended as a "utility" 8×8, at least one Esarco was prepared for racing! In 1991 Jacob Westerfeld and Michael Amiralay prepared an Esarco for the Paris to Capetown Rally, also aiming for the Paris-Dakar Rally.
Back in the UK, the Esarco concept was bought by the MWG Group which refined the design but was put into administration. The 8×8 was purchased by the ex MD of MWG, Mike Hearn and a new company, H.U.G.O. (heavy use-global operation) All Terrain Vehicles Ltd. which built final prototypes and type approved the 8×8 c1991. MWG established early on that the possible users would want to carry a crew. Army gun towing, re-supply, emergency aid relief etc. - these usually need to carry a useful load off road and carry the operatives. As a result, MWG made the 8×8 as a diesel-engine vehicle for better fuel duration and fitted a Perkins four cylinder Phaser 110. Also fitted is an automatic Chrysler A727 gearbox and a Land Rover LT250 transfer box driving four specially made wider and stronger axles.
The body was made as a rigid frame structure and all suspension was coil with double acting shock absorbers. The cabin was constructed on a rigid square steel frame providing roll over protection. It is a four-door four-seat cab. There is room between the rear seats for a fold-down bench seat for two more or for an access door to the load deck.

FERRARI MONDIAL 8 3.0 Litre V8

The Supercar Rooms are very pleased to offer to you this great example of the Ferrari Mondial 8. Due to its low manufacturing levels (only 145 units RHD) and current retail prices, the Mondial 8 series really is the investment car of today. Considered to be one of the most usable Ferraris due to its spacious cockpit and rear seats it really is a great car to drive.

Although not recognised for its performance levels (0-60mph in 8.2secs), it still commands some pretty impressive figures when compared against it cousins such as the 1975 Ferrari 308 GT4 (8.0secs) and the 1980 308 GTSi (7.9secs).

This particular example is presented in the very sort after Blu Chiaro and is complimented wonderfully by the Cream Leather interior and blue carpeting. Unfortunately the service history has been misplaced but the general condition goes far enough to suggest this has been well looked after by it 4 owners. It will benefit from a full service before its sale including belts.

To arrange a viewing, please call 01299 666116 and a member of the team will be happy to help. We look forward to hearing from you.

1966 MERCEDES BENZ 250 COUPE

This astonishingly original right hand drive Mercedes 250 Coupe is such a car, being in perfect working order. Sparingly used and as a consequence, the odometer now shows just 50K miles, a total which seems completely plausible, given its supporting history and in the way in which it drives – actually perfectly, plus it is light, tight and responsive.

This is a matching numbers car and remains original to its factory specification. The body is arrow-straight with exemplary panel gaps and presents beautifully.

The exterior fittings and abundant chrome trim are in superb condition and its further complement by its original and rare factory sunroof. The windscreen is unblemished, as is all the remaining original window glass and corresponding rubber seals.
The interior is remarkably preserved with dark blue leather seats, immaculate walnut dashboard and headcloth. The comprehensive instruments, heating and lighting controls are complete and fully functioning as you would expect from a German car of this quality. Pleasingly the cabin retains the original period radio player and speakers which remain in good working order.

The Mercedes engine starts on the button, idles consistently and with ample power on tap, pulls the large coupe along with ease. The automatic gearbox is precise and shifting is easy, quiet and smooth making this the 60’s version of grace, pace and space.

In line with its pampered past a recent and comprehensive engine service has just been completed. It is shod with five brand new period whitewall tyres, which suit the chassis perfectly, giving it a compliant and comfortable ride plus tenuous grip; something I can attest to, having driven her countless shake-down miles in the last month.
The mercedes will have a current 12 months MOT and includes the original and stamped service book. The owner’s handbook, radio and maintenance provenance are present in the car’s folder along with original sales brochures.

In summary a rare Mercedes, beautifully preserved and ready for many more miles of reliable nostalgic 1960’s motoring.
The Mercedes 1960’s 250 SEB Coupes have become in huge demand over the last few years and are one of the highest climbers in the Classic car market.

The Benz cognoscenti have always known how good the W111 coupés are, seeking them out long before the trendies adopted the cars in the 1980s; at one time it seemed as if every photographer in Notting Hill owned one. Beautifully built, rare and timelessly handsome, the coupés are fully deserving of classic status.

History
The date of the introduction of the W111 Series Mercedes SE Coupe was carefully chosen. It was not as usual an international automobile show, this time it was the opening of the Daimler-Benz Museum in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim on Feb. 24th, 1961 and the celebration of the company’s 75th anniversary. With its pillar-less side glass, a hallmark of almost all coupes coming out of Stuttgart in future, and wraparound front and rear windows, the car was a statement of exquisite taste and should remain in production till 1971.
The cabriolet was launched a little later at the Frankfurt International Automobile Show in September 1961.
The chassis had to be strengthened on the sides due to the coupe’s pillar-less design. Both sedan and coupe had roughly the same length, but the coupe was 5 cm (2 in) wider and 8.5 cm (3.3 in) lower. Next to chassis and engine, the only other parts that were shared with the sedan were the head lights and the radiator grille. Powered by a silky smooth six cylinder engine the car is capable of over 100mph and keeps up with modern traffic with ease.
The luggage area was huge for a coupe and the interior generous for a two-door vehicle. Seats were thick, wide and covered with leather. From the beginning the coupe had an aura of class and dignity and for the first time it was possible to travel in a Mercedes coupe with four passengers in comfort. The interior of the car was a feast for the eyes (and the nose). Not only the seats were covered with top quality leather, also the door trim, the dashboard cover, the rear shelf and even the inside of the glove compartment used the same material. The dashboard fascia, the instrument housing and the loudspeaker cover were made of wood. Like in the Ponton coupe models one could choose between walnut, macassar or burl walnut veneer. The instrument-layout was a departure from the sedan version, it was copied from the 300SL roadster, with speedometer and odometer to the left and right and secondary instruments for oil-pressure, fuel and water in the centre.
The cabriolet had been developed in the tradition of Daimler-Benz to offer a special and elegant open top two-door version of their six-cylinder executive cars. Although they were produced alongside the sedans, many parts had been manually assembled, so that one can say these cars were the last hand built cars of Daimler-Benz, taken the 600 aside. They offered a quality unmatched by its rivals and even successors.

1974 MG B GT V8
After years of mass producing the 1800cc B GT it was about time MG finally built an exciting variant especially after the unpopular C model which did not fulfil the needs of the sporting enthusiast.

Costello Engineering were the first to produce a modified B roadster fitted with the ubiquitous Rover V8 and Abingdon effectively stole the concept and put the GT into production in 1972.
The end result was a really special performance car very popular with enthusiasts and even the motoring press.
The last cars were completed in 1975 with a total number of 1800 chrome bumper cars built and only 206 finished in this stunning Citron Yellow colour.
This lovely 7 owner example left the factory in March 1974 but only sold in September that year to a London buyer.
The history file documents continual maintenance with some invoices dating back to the 70s and 80s complete with an original owners manual.
She has recently had a mechanical overhaul costing around £7,000 including rebuilt gearbox and overdrive, stainless steel exhaust, radiator, water pump, suspension etc.

Although not concours she is in superb condition and a strong driver with a very tight chassis.
On the road the V8 roars and provides plenty of grunt propelling her unlike any other MG with high speed cruising easily achieved with the overdrive gearbox.

Supplied fully inspected and with a 12 month comprehensive warranty.
