The history of all the CUT 7 cars are well documented. This is the second car Dick Protheroe raced in 1963 most notably at Goodwood Sussex Trophy (4th) and Silverstone Daily Express Trophy (3rd) before re-registering as 256 DJU and selling to Roger Mac.
After Roger Mac’s stunning season in the car he moved onto F2 and sold to David Cunningham and then to the East Hants Team of Paul Vestey and Rick Ward. They continued to race the car before an accident in 1965 resulted in Vestey buying a roadster body from the factory and transferring the running gear from the coupe.
Vestey soon moved onto Le Mans and sold the car to John Lewis who competed in mod sports with great success in 1967-69 before selling the car. Buying it back in 1979 he prepared it for FIA historic racing and with Jaguar Cars backing won the championship in 1983, 85 and 87 with Roger Mac driving the car again! Following Bobby Unser’s factory backed drive in 1990 the car has only been used in 93 Tour Auto (4th overall) and track days by John Lewis. In its current form over the last 35 years the car has been the subject of numerous magazine articles.
The coupe monocoque was sold to Dick Soan and then in 1968 to well-known Jaguar collector Penny Woodley who used it with considerable success as a hill climb car. In 2015 Penny, with incredible generosity, donated the body shell so it could be reunited with 256 DJU. The coupe is being restored to original Dick Protheroe spec and carries the registration of CUT 7A.
