1951 CITROEN TRACTION AVANT BIG 15/6
The Traction Avant pioneered mass production of three revolutionary features still in use today: a unitary body with no separate frame, four-wheel independent suspension, and front-wheel drive. The Traction Avant's structure was a welded unitary body / chassis. Most other cars of the era were based on a separate chassis onto which the non-structural coachwork was built.
The novel design made the car very low-slung relative to its contemporaries – the Traction Avant was always distinctive, which went from appearing rakish in 1934 to familiar and somewhat old fashioned by 1955.
The 15CV model was called Big Six in reference to its 6-cylinder engine. This example of the Big Six was sold new in New Zealand and has had a very sedate life. Never being on salted roads the car is clean and straight and boasts mainly original paint, interior and low miles. My client the third and current owner of the vehicle has been a Citroen enthusiast his entire life. The time has come for him to reluctantly release it from his collection, and let a new enthusiastic owner take control of the wheel.
Seldom do opportunities like this arise. This vehicle has a graceful patina that is so often lost and can never be recreated. This is a very special car in fact In France, the Traction is known as "Reine de la Route" ("Queen of the Road") and rightfully so.
The car is accompanied by a file of paperwork, invoices and original ownership papers.
Please note the vehicle is reading 25,000 Miles.
Chassis Number: 15C9-118818
Engine Number: PM-07712

  • Former long-term ownership
  • Superb, chic and stylish

  • Perfect for the Goodwood Revival

After 18 years of secret development as the successor to the Traction Avant, the DS 19 was introduced on 5th October 1955 at the Paris Motor Show. In the first 15 minutes of the show, 743 orders were taken and orders for the first day totalled over 12,000. During the 10 days of the show, the DS took in 80,000 deposits; a record that stood for the next 60 years.
In addition, the vehicle was offered with the option of power steering and a semi-automatic transmission (the transmission required no clutch pedal, but gears still had to be shifted by hand), though the shift lever controlled a powered hydraulic shift mechanism in place of a mechanical linkage, and a fibreglass roof which lowered the centre of gravity and so reduced weight transfer. Inboard front brakes (as well as independent suspension) reduced unsprung weight. Different front and rear track widths and tyre sizes reduced the unequal tyre loading, which is well known to promote understeer, typical of front-engined and front-wheel drive cars.
Finished in the period colour combination of Bleu Angora with Gris Palombe and Bufflon Gris vinyl. Extremely rare factory original RHD car, this particular example benefiting with just having only 4 owners over the 50 years which highlights the importance each of these lucky owners have placed on the Safari.

Complete with tools and period fitted Supersonic radio still fitted this car will simply not disappoint upon viewing.
Perfect for the Goodwood Revival.
Now available for viewing at the DD Classics Dealership in London, please call 0208 878 33 55 to book an appointment.

1973 CITROEN DS23 EFI PALLAS - European Classic Cars

CLASSIC OF THE DAY
Today we celebrate the first birthday of Classic of the Day and also we celebrate reaching 5000 hits, so a big thank you to all our readers & business supporters.

1973 CITROEN DS23 EFI PALLAS

Popularity and interest for this design icon has been steadily rising in recent years, recent magazine articles marking it as a great investment for the future. We just love them for being wonderful cars to own and drive and our example currently available is the best model to buy,the DS23,EFI Pallas.
Originally sold new to the MD of a Citroen dealership in Prato,Italy it then spent all it's life in the same town,Prato up to 2007.With just two other keepers in Prato and one subsequent owner since 2007 it is a nice low owner example.
Current mileage is recorded at 96k km's and it is in excellent condition inside and out.The suspension rises smoothly on start up and holds it's position for a long time when turned off.The engine runs well and brakes, clutch and gearchange operate well.
In a lovely dark blue, with blue cloth interior it has all the usual Pallas additions, including correct headrests, rear window blind, external Pallas trim.

Please enquire for further details or to arrange viewing.
