1920 RENAULT 40CV

This type was produced in 1919-1921 and was one of the most prestigious cars in the world. Renault has competed with this expensive technically advanced model with the Farman A6B, Minerva AK, Rolls-Royce 40/50 Silver Ghost, Hispano Suiza H6, Isotta Fraschini Type 8.
It is the largest automobile produced by Renault which, despite its progress, has featured some of the features of the first decade, such as a "hatch" hood that covered the engine's rear cooler, giving it a very compact look. However, the hood was not preserved, so it was scanned by the Chropyne engineering company in Netherlands museum and Veteran Clinic Division was newly made.
Consumption at 70 km/h is 27 liters of petrol, with a maximum speed of 130 km/h. Only 35 cars were produced, 7 cars were preserved.
The vehicle is gradually restored sensitively so that anything that can do without renovation remains in its original state. At present, the engine is completely refurbished after a complete overhaul and the chassis. The car is mobile and has very good driving characteristics, comparable to R + R Phantom I.

1933 HISPANO-SUIZA K6 LIMOUSINE BY VAN VOOREN

This Hispano-Suiza K6 is powered by a 5,184 cc six-cylinder OHV, developed by Marc Birkigt. The engine had a shorter 110-millimetre stroke and improved suction, making it 120 hp, even though it was smaller than its predecessor. The three-speed manual gearbox, rigid axles with semi-elliptical front and rear suspension and drum brakes on all four wheels, made the K6 a very sophisticated and high-quality car that was popular with many leading French bodybuilders.
The offered car, chassis number 15027 was delivered in 1933 to well-known wholesaler L. Duval-Lemonier of Normandy, who in the 1950s joined forces with PA Halley, which gave rise to the huge company Promodés. In 1999, it announced a deal with Carrefour and was the largest retail group in Europe and the second largest in the world (right after Walmart).
This original "Limousine" body comes from the famous French car body, Carrosserie Vanvooren. The car is in an excellent, fully functional condition with all the original details and interior and with a nice patina.
The car is located in our showroom and in case of interest or questions do not hesitate to contact us.

1904 BOYER SIX & HALF HORSEPOWER - Gavin McGuire Fine Automobiles

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
Veteran Car Week
We continue our look at cars from the Veteran Era in celebration of the London to Brighton Weekend, not all are eligible for the run but there are some interesting makes & models out there so we continue with the 1904 Boyer.

1904 BOYER SIX & HALF HORSEPOWER
Georgano’s indispensable  “Complete Encyclopedia of Motorcars” tells us that Boyer et Cie of Suresnes in France was initially associated with Phebus motorcycles powered by either De Dion or Aster engines. By 1901 they were manufacturing the advanced tubular framed motor car you see here which was usually supplied with either a single cylinder Aster engine or a twin cylinder Buchet engine connected via a cone clutch to a three speed and reverse gearbox with chain drive to the rear wheels.
This lovely single cylinder example, which I understand is in only in its second ownership since new, is the first Boyer I have seen which is not too surprising as there are only four such cars listed in the VCC handbook. The thing that strikes you is that it is a very compact four seater so it can’t weigh that much which probably explains why it goes rather well though its performance is no doubt enhanced by its recent engine rebuild. The body, which is mainly made of wood including the wings, is very attractively finished and nicely trimmed and, as you can see in one of the pictures, comes complete with a detachable Surrey top which will no doubt be much appreciated on the rare occasions when it rains on the London to Brighton Run! On the subject of the Brighton Run you also get the benefit of an early start due to its 1901 date as verified by its VCC dating certificate number 2452 which was issued on September 2004. The car is obviously correct as the only variances recorded on the certificate are a non-standard but period looking Claudel carburettor and a relocated water tank. I gather the Boyer was totally restored in 1991 and the file includes a few pre-restoration pictures of it so you can see that a large proportion of the car is original.
All in all this is a rare and very pretty single cylinder four place motor car which will make a really good participant in the London to Brighton as well as being able to join in single and twin cylinder events like the Creepy Crawley. Wherever it goes it is sure to attract a lot of interest.

1907 DARRACQ 10/12hp

CAR OF THE DAY

1907 DARRACQ 10/12 hp
Early Darracqs have always impressed people with the way they perform. This lovely Veteran Car Club dated twin cylinder model is no exception and even stands up well against a few four cylinder Edwardians I have driven.

The car has been totally dismantled and rebuilt by its owner who is a well known VCC member. As well as documenting the work done he took pictures of every stage of the process which are stored a CD. I will be happy to show you this when you come to see the car.
It now has an electric starter which, as well as making it easier to fire up the engine on a cold day, also makes it much more useable in traffic – stalling a hand-started 106 year old engine at the front of a queue of impatient modern car drivers is never a pleasant experience! It has also been fitted with an electric fuel pump so you don’t suffer from fuel starvation when climbing steep hills as you can with many cars with low set gravity-feed fuel tanks.
Once it has warmed up the rebuilt engine sounds good and pulls very well. The gearbox which, on inspection was found to have some wear on the intermediate gears but is otherwise serviceable, works well. The ratios are nicely spaced so you can get up to fair quite a rate of knots in second before going into the relatively high top gear which gives a decent cruising speed. The steering is also good as are the brakes so you are able to enjoy the car’s performance.
The attractively styled swing seat tonneau coachwork, which is obviously of relatively recent construction, is sound and the upholstery is very smart. The paintwork is more workmanlike than concours but is presentable and at least you can use the car without worrying that people will leave their fingerprints all over it at either at shows or in the supermarket car park (and why should you not drive it to the supermarket – it is after all a motor car originally designed to be used as transport).
All in all it is a very useable and attractive twin cylinder car which has been nicely restored and also fitted with a couple of discreet modern extras which make it just that bit more useable without detracting from how it drives. Darracq twins are often quite a bit smaller than other similar cars and you will find it performs very well as a result. Being a 1907 10 hp twin cylinder also lets it into the more specialist early Edwardian car events
