1957 FORD 100 E ANGLIA

Originally sold by Harry Nash Motors Ltd, Hammersmith this Ford Anglia was first registered on the 23rd Feb 1957, meaning that she is now celebrating her 60th year on the road. With only 3 previous keepers we understand the car has been within the same local, family ownership for a considerable period of time, never taken out in the rain and has only become available as the elderly local gentleman has recently retired from driving.

Finished in a period shade of green the Anglia has a wonderful patina to her. An inspection of the car confirms that she is in remarkably original condition, subject to an older repaint the bodywork now shows some minor blemishes, but she still presents remarkably well, great panel gaps, structurally very original, not dents, nice clear scratch-free glass and lovely bright chrome work all round, remarkable for a car of this age.

The Deluxe interior features the lovely brushed aluminum twin dial dash, added to models built after '56 and its great to see that this car is fitted with the 'optional' heater! At some point in the past the seats have been recovered and these remain nice and comfortable with plenty of interior space for front / rear passengers.

As for her mechanical condition, the Anglia is a real gem....with the key in the ignition and a pull of the 'starter' button the 1172cc side-valve 4 cylinder engine fires instantly without any fuss or smoke and within a matter of seconds she settles into an almost silent tick over. The 3 speed manual transmission selects smoothly and the little Anglia is soon upto a comfortable driving speed, the engine surprisingly having plenty of low down torque when pulling away from tight bends in top gear. With a top speed of 69mph our Anglia will happily run along at 50mph, so she's perfect for quieter A/B class roads and on a recent 30mile drive this wonderful Anglia was a real pleasure to drive, no undue rattles or wind noise and brought many smiles and waves from the people we passed by.

Ready to be enjoyed or should a buyer wish take her to the next level, a 60th Birthday refresh maybe, which we can also undertake this fantastic '57 Ford Anglia makes a great starter classic and with a good sized boot it would be fabulous to see her being enjoyed on family picnics or weekends away. She comes with her current V5C, original buff log-book (so often lost), she has her original Anglia 'Instruction Book', 2 sets of keys and mixture of MOT records from '75 (her mileage was 47687) through to her most recent MOT (exp Jun '17) and now shows only 50600 miles, which could quite easily be original.

1978 MGB Roadster - FENDER BROAD CLASSICS

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
From
 Fender Broad Classic Cars Limited
Glenfrome House, Eastgate Road. Bristol . BS5 6XX
  1978 MGB Roadster
We buy cars we like and sell them to people we like. It’s our principle for establishing Fender and Broad. This is not our ‘usual’ stock. However occasionally a car comes to you that just makes you smile and realise how lucky we are to be playing with old cars. This V8 MG is such a car. Restored to an almost unbelievably high standard structurally and mechanically regardless of cost. It now represents fabulous value for money priced at a fraction of the build cost
BODYWORK: Rebuilt from scratch to concours condition. Roll cage installed. Painted to a very high standard in signal red. Many other safety features are fitted to ensure driver safety. The bodywork is literally perfect and the external fittings replicate the Sebring spec earlier MG cars
CHASSIS: restored to original specification with strengthening to all key areas. Uprated springs and bushes featuring negative camber set on alloy hubs. Limited slip differential with allot diff cover. Competition pads and shoes.
ENGINE: Blue print build by TVR Power at 300bhp with useable power curve making this an ideal track day car but just as much fun to drive to and from work or pottering around town. Stainless steel exhaust and free flow manifold ensure the best balanced induction and exhaust profile
The car sits on the very best magnesium alloy wheels shod with as new tyres.
On the road the BV8 encourages you to push and push and push with endless power mated to superb brakes and suspension set up. The racing bucket seats and harnesses keep you nice and steady in the cockpit leaving you to consider nothing more than a Daniel Riccardo like smile. It is almost as fast as his Red Bull Renault too!
A simply stunning car that you couldn’t build for a third of this price.

1949 CITROEN 118 NORMALE - ROBIN LAWTON CLASSICS

"CLASSIC O THE DAY"
Countdown to Christmas
Featuring

1949 CITROEN 118 NORMALE

When it debuted in 1934, Citroen’s new ‘Traction Avant’ caused a sensation.
Both stylish and ultra modern, it was the World’s first monocoque production
car with front wheel drive. It was to enjoy an illustrious 23 year
production run, with variants including 7CV, 11CV and the six cylinder 15CV
models.
In total, approximately 760,000 units were produced, and apart from the
Citroen factory in Paris, they were assembled in Belgium, Cologne,
Copenhagen and at Slough in the UK.
It is difficult to avoid the much-used adjective “iconic” when describing
the Traction Avant – it was an integral part of the French landscape for
many decades and it will be remembered by many for a starring role in the TV
series ‘Inspector Maigret’.
This 1949 car is an example of the longer wheelbase ‘Normale’ (the smaller
model was known as ‘Legere’) It appears to have been assembled in Belgium.
Formerly owned by TV presenter and journalist Chris Goffey for many years,
the car has been the subject of extensive work since being imported to the
UK in 1985.
During the last few months the wiring has had attention and a new battery
has been fitted. The front wings have been restored and repainted by a local
coachworks just 2 months ago.
The overall appearance is very smart and the original cloth interior trim
is sound and tidy, with just some stains which are commensurate with age.
The braking system has also been overhauled this year. The car has been
carefully maintained during the present ownership - the gearbox was rebuilt
by Roger Williams and a diaphragm clutch fitted along with uprated cwp and
Range Rover CV joints. The engine has benefited from a top end overhaul and
the radiator has been reconditioned.
The car drives very well with ample power, coping with the steep hills
around Hampshire very easily.
A large file of paperwork is supplied, including bills and details of work
carried out, plus a copy of the Repair Manual and much additional
information on Citroens of this period.

1907 DARRACQ 10/12hp

CAR OF THE DAY

1907 DARRACQ 10/12 hp
Early Darracqs have always impressed people with the way they perform. This lovely Veteran Car Club dated twin cylinder model is no exception and even stands up well against a few four cylinder Edwardians I have driven.

The car has been totally dismantled and rebuilt by its owner who is a well known VCC member. As well as documenting the work done he took pictures of every stage of the process which are stored a CD. I will be happy to show you this when you come to see the car.
It now has an electric starter which, as well as making it easier to fire up the engine on a cold day, also makes it much more useable in traffic – stalling a hand-started 106 year old engine at the front of a queue of impatient modern car drivers is never a pleasant experience! It has also been fitted with an electric fuel pump so you don’t suffer from fuel starvation when climbing steep hills as you can with many cars with low set gravity-feed fuel tanks.
Once it has warmed up the rebuilt engine sounds good and pulls very well. The gearbox which, on inspection was found to have some wear on the intermediate gears but is otherwise serviceable, works well. The ratios are nicely spaced so you can get up to fair quite a rate of knots in second before going into the relatively high top gear which gives a decent cruising speed. The steering is also good as are the brakes so you are able to enjoy the car’s performance.
The attractively styled swing seat tonneau coachwork, which is obviously of relatively recent construction, is sound and the upholstery is very smart. The paintwork is more workmanlike than concours but is presentable and at least you can use the car without worrying that people will leave their fingerprints all over it at either at shows or in the supermarket car park (and why should you not drive it to the supermarket – it is after all a motor car originally designed to be used as transport).
All in all it is a very useable and attractive twin cylinder car which has been nicely restored and also fitted with a couple of discreet modern extras which make it just that bit more useable without detracting from how it drives. Darracq twins are often quite a bit smaller than other similar cars and you will find it performs very well as a result. Being a 1907 10 hp twin cylinder also lets it into the more specialist early Edwardian car events
