New Forest, Hampshire

1923 MG J2 TWO SEAT SPORTS
Chassis No: J2731
Engine No: 1162AJ
Registration No: XJ 5168
ONE OWNER 54 years – a Mr. Peter Bloomfield of Cambridge from 1957-2011 – car found derelict in a Herefordshire farmyard in 1957 – photos show – and he finally restored this fabulous car between 1995 and 1999, then enjoyed the car for only 796 miles before selling to the previous owner to the present owner.
“The chassis was stripped bare – and the original scuttle, bonnet, cycle wings, petrol tank, radiator, and wheels have been re-used, as well as the running gear and engine. A new Ash frame was built – photo shows – and clad in aluminium.
The whole car is original with the exception of the frame, upholstery, and paint.”
A restoration account is written up in the MG Octagon Car Club March 2000 Bulletin, on file
Registered 6/1/33
Chassis J2731
Engine 1162 AJ
V5C Registration number XJ 5168
RF60 1952 brown log book
J2731 was delivered to J Cockshoot & Co and purchased by Mr. F S Crossland of Southwood, Hargate Drive, Hale, Altrincham, Greater Manchester, Cheshire on the 11th January 1933, via Grosvenor Garage of Burnage Lane, Levenshulme, Manchester, telephone Rusholme 886. Southwood House is a 6-bed house currently on Rightmove at £1.9 million, so Mr. Crossland was a well-to-do first purchaser of this car. A postcard is on file from the first owner to the MG Car Co requesting a certificate of guarantee and an instruction book
Purchased earlier this year by a collector - I have known for 20 plus years - with a wide variety of pre-war cars, he had specifically intended to take this car on a fairly quick tour of the Alps, down to Italy and back. In the event, he decided to buy a rather faster machine. As a result, this car is now offered for sale – in excellent all round condition having travelled just 1275 miles since restoration
Modification : 12” P-type MG drum brakes fitted. Smaller originals accompany the car
New set Blockley 4.50 x 19” tyres – August 2014
Seats re-trimmed 2014
New Temperature gauge 2014
New ignition switch 2014
Halogen headlamp bulbs 2014
Headlamps – new glass, rims re-chromed and reflectors re-silvered 2014

1981 MG B LE ROADSTER
HISTORY FILE – Introduced in 1979 to celebrate 50 years of MG production at Abingdon, the Limited Edition (LE) models were the last built there before the factory's closure. A total of 1,000 cars were produced: 480 Roadsters and 520 GT models. Our chassis number: GVADJ1AG522763 was supplied by P.J. Evans (Dudley) British Leyland cars in March 1981 to Allsop Brothers of Smalley, Derbyshire. With an eye to the future, the car was immediately put into storage and never used. The car was then sold in 1981 and immediately stored again before going to the third custodian-collector in 2014 to continue its sheltered life in storage. Never used on the public road, SHA 982W is a relatively well known car within the MG scene with known provenance from new and surely a great long-term investment opportunity. We doubt there is another out there as good as this example?

EXTERIOR – Finished in MG’s unique Bronze metallic and synonymous with the final 480 ever produced Roadsters, the gold MGB Union Flag decals authenticate the cars heritage. The paint is in remarkable condition and has clearly been stored without seeing the light of day for a very long time. The high quality gold MG emblem indoor car cover has obviously played a roll. Tragically, the vinyl roof does have a small tear behind the passenger side which is a real shame and will be repaired rather than replace the roof. Both full and half tonneau covers are perfect and have clearly never been used. The distinctive chin spoiler is in perfect condition. The car is unrepeatable!

INTERIOR – As you would expect from such a low mileage car, the interior is literally ‘like new’! Upholstered in period orange ‘Deckchair’ it’s obviously not to everyone’s taste but, what we have here is a very unique car still in pristine original condition. Therefore, should it be changed? The crackle finish dash is literally as it left the factory - in time warp condition. Factory prepared for radio with speakers and antenna fitted.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION – The 1798cc engine number 39221 has travelled just 250 miles! As good as it gets and a wonderful opportunity for any serious MG collector. The oil is super clean and will of course be serviced and checked before delivery depending on the new owners plans. Incredibly, the (still new) Passport to Service book is still with the car along with the original Driver’s Handbook. The engine bay is exactly as it left the factory and still has the original Unipart stickers on the air filter covers. Just amazing!

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES – The 14” unique Stag-type alloy wheels are still covered in the original Uniroyal tyres but, sadly, a couple of the wheels are now showing signs of pitting, but is nothing tragic.

MG 1100
National in a rigorously impeccable state.
Engine and gearbox, fully refitted.
Hydrolastic suspension, completely new.
Leather upholstery and carpet and new rugs.
Reviewed in full by Targa Florio.
Full and detailed full restoration.
Rare model these days.

"Designed by Alec Issigonis and presented in 1962, were revolutionaries at the time, with their Hidrolastic suspension and front transmission. With two carburetors and a luxurious interior, they had a huge space in the passenger compartment and were extraordinarily easy and enjoyable to drive. In this case, this copy has been restored without cost containment, and it is very difficult to find another in a better state "
