1973 JAGUAR XJ-12 SERIES I

A fully restored 1972 Jaguar XJ12 for sale. This MKI was supplied from new to Switzerland on the 29th September 1972 and registered there on the 30th February 1973. It was exported to the Netherlands on the 16th October 2009, after it had been garaged in Switzerland and not used for over 31 years from 1988 to 2009! The odometer reads a mere 83,901 km. A few years ago the car underwent full restoration in Holland. Neither cost nor effort was spared to achieve a sublime finish to the car, everything being duly photographically recorded. The perfectly straight, as good as new bodywork has corresponding perfect fitting body panels. Likewise, the uncorroded underbody is fantastic and as good as new. The paint finish and chrome work are again of an excellent high quality. An XJ restoration of this higher quality is most certainly a rarity! It has an original colour coded finish of ‘White with a Dark Blue leather trim’. This XJ has its Jaguar Heritage certified ‘Matching Numbers’ engine. We have yet to come across a better immaculately restored XJ12!

1955 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith Hooper Touring Limousine
1955 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith Hooper Touring Limousine design number 8422, this is the only Silver Wraith to be built to this supremely elegant 4 light design. And this very car, chassis number DLW13, is pictured in Rolls-Royce The Elegance Continues on Page 106
The stunning coachwork is finished in Green over Cream with deep Green hide interior. The car received a chassis up restoration which was a joint project between two Rolls-Royce specialists in London, this was completed 5 years ago before the car was shipped to Sweden where it was owned and showed by the chairman of the Swedish section of the RREC, he frequently used the car for rallies over the summer and kept the car maintained to the highest possible standard.  We have known this wonderful motorcar since 1989, the owner was one, Mr Ceder Esq of Danver Street Mayfair, London. Whilst in Mr Ceder's ownership the car carried the registration number RH1, a gift from Sir Winston Churchill. This stunning motor car runs and drives beautifully being equipped with the larger 4.9-litre engine coupled to a smooth automatic gearbox. We fitted a hydraulic power steering system to the car a few years ago and thus it really does drive like a much later car.  Every element about this Silver Wraith is exceptional.

Mr Ceder was a great help to Sir Winston Churchill during the Second World War, converting all of his factories to produce armaments for the war effort. At the end of the war, Mr Ceder was called to Churchill's office where he was asked whether he would like something in reward for the work he had carried out. Churchill was under the impression Mr Ceder would ask for an OBE or Knighthood or an honour, however, Mr Ceder was a very modest gentleman. That said, he did love his Rolls-Royce so he asked Churchill for a special registration number, much obliged, Churchill managed to source for him RH 1 (Royal Highness 1) which proudly graced this Silver Wraith for many many years. Years later Rex Harrison offered Mr Ceder £1000,000 for this number plates, Mr Harrison was told that in no uncertain terms that his number would never be sold. Unfortunately, when Mr Ceder passed away the registration number was sold by his family. A great shame when considering how much history is attached to it.
This is probably the finest Silver Wraith one can buy.

1928 Hispano Suiza H6C "Boulogne"
Chassis No:12400
Engine No: 320387
Engine: 6 Cylinder 7983cc
Gearbox: 3 Speed

In 1919, having built a reputation for manufacturing some of the finest aero engines, Hispano Suiza's lead engineer, Marc Birkigt, from Switzerland turned his attention to motorcar design. The first model produced after World War 1 was the 6.5 Litre H6B. It was without doubt technically the most advanced car in the world. Many of the cars produced carried elaborate formal coachwork. The smooth and powerful engine, superb transmission, brakes and steering, combined with the excellent chassis provided a perfect platform to build such cars.

The H6B chassis in shortened form was also used for competition and was very successful. One of the most famous results was at the prestigious Georges Boillot Cup held in 1922 at Boulogne. The factory prepared 5 short chassis cars, with a slightly enlarged engine. The outright victory was the result for Ballot and a second for André Dubonnet. In 1923 the same result was obtained using the 8 Litre H6C Chassis.

Dubonnet entered one of the 1922 cars for the 400km race at Monza, winning the larger class. The short chassis cars were also raced at Indianapolis with great success. Over the years there has been some confusion and argument among motoring historians as to exactly when the epithets "Monza" and "Boulogne" came to be used for the competition cars, which applied to which engine size. One of the most respected experts was none other but "Jabby" Crombac, the highly respected Formula One journalist who worked for Autosport and launched Sport-Auto in France.

This car was originally supplied with a very light and sporting skiff coachwork by Labourdette to Suzanne Deutsche de la Meurthe. She was Henry Deutsche de la Meurthe’s daughter. Henry was one of the richest men in Europe. His company, Jupiter Oils, merged with Shell to become Shell France. Henry founded the Automobile Club de France with the Count of Dion (of De Dion Bouton fame.) Suzanne had a great passion for aviation and was instrumental in rebuilding the aero industry in France after WW11. Both her father and she received the Legion D’ Honneur.

“Jabby” Crombac purchased this car in the late 1950's and proceeded with an exciting project to restore the car as short chassis competition model. None of the original racing cars existed, but with the help of an experienced ex Hispano factory engineer, he obtained some original Hispano competition department parts, including the shortened prop shaft. Crombac's work was completed with help from Louis Rossigneux the Hispano factory engineer mentioned earlier and John Bolster the highly respected British motoring journalist. Rossigneux fitted an uprated camshaft, back axle and carried out other performance modifications. The result is a car which is capable of 120MPH
