1964 ALFA ROMEO 2600

Manufactured in 1964 at Carrozzeria Tourings new factory at Nova Milanese, our 2600 Spider is a rare Tipo 106.08 model, a factory RHD car supplied new to race ace Roy Salvadoris Alfa Romeo dealership Chipstead Motors on 19.06.1964, finished in stylish grigio grafite (AR716), the same colour the car presents in today.

Only 2255 of these cars were produced, with just 103 being right hand drive configuration.

Little is known of our cars early history but its English owner took it to Spain in 1980 where it lived in Barcelona, moving again to Italy in 2008 when the previous owner imported the car.

Our matching numbers Alfa has had a photo documented bare metal restoration carried out by Italian artisans in 2013/5, since when around 4000 miles have been covered, so the car is now nicely bedded in and today it presents as a one year old example.

Eschewing reproduction parts, the quality of the restoration is exceptional and great care has been taken to produce an authentic car, down to the correct Solex PHH carburetors often lost on these cars. The two tone trim is we believe original, with photographs of the car pre restoration showing this scheme; whilst mono trim was standard on these cars, two tone schemes were available by special order, usually for motor show cars.

This Alfa is sold with cancelled Italian papers and is HMRC NOVA cleared. We can arrange UK registration at no additional cost to the buyer.

Body

The paint finish on this Alfa is sensational, no other word for it, a thin coat with a superb shine and is probably better than when the car was new. The opening panels open and shut with a coach built thunk and the car makes for an eye popping first impression.

Every single item of trim has been rechromed, again to the highest standard, and the fit of all bright work is exceptional. The windscreen was replaced and of course all new rubber seals fitted.

The hood was redone using best mohair and is unmarked; all road wheels were blasted and repainted, shod with correct Michelins and rounded off with a set of perfect hubcaps.

The chassis was stripped and any rust repairs seamlessly completed, the whole chassis receiving a protective anti rust treatment.

Mechanicals

As part of the restoration, a major mechanical overhaul was performed seeing components removed and renewed or repaired as required. All the suspension was dismantled, refinished, with new bushes and shock absorbers fitted.

All hydraulics were replaced and the entire braking system renewed. Unsurprisingly, today the car stops on a sixpence and has a comfortable, sure footed ride.

The gearbox operates without fault and the matching numbers engine is quiet and powerful. In good tune this motor pulls lustily and the car drove impressively on test.
Under bonnet presentation is very sharp indeed with all the right finishes and pleasingly some original items have been retained including the lubrication sticker and fuse box legend.

The Alfa has an MOT until April 2018.

Interior

This has been completely renewed, with the unique two tone upholstery faithfully replicated. All internal jewelry is present and correct and the Alfa is a great place in which to watch the world go by.

Boot

Trimmed in OE specification matting, the boot area is unmarked. A feature of the car is the beautiful wooden boxed toolkit and jack, again restored and presenting as they did in 1964.

Summary

Probably the best 2600 Spider on the planet, weve not seen a better one. For concours, for touring, for investment, this is a first quality example in the best colour, just superb!
