1976 FERRARI 308 GTB VETRORESINAChassis 19237

Unveiled at the 1975 Paris Auto Salon, the all-new 308GTB heralded a change of direction at Ferrari opening a whole new market for the esteemed manufacturer. Rightly regarded as iconic and era-defining this compact and clean Pininfarina design was to stand the test of time and you don’t need to squint to see its DNA in the hugely coveted 288 GTO! A notable aspect of the early 308GTB was that, although still built by Scaglietti, the car's bodywork was made entirely of fibreglass, allowing for a very light weight of just over 2,300 lbs. These early fibreglass cars also featured dry-sump lubrication derived from Ferrari's racing experience. Just 712 of these first series, lightweight 308GTB's were produced until June of 1977.

The 3 Litre DOHC V8 motor introduced as a replacement for the V6-powered 246 Dino has powered a model-range that still runs to this day, the current Ferrari 488 being the latest iteration. With the power-plant placed transversely above the rear axle, these cars have proven to be very agile handlers being so well balanced.

Chassis 19237 was completed in May 1976 and was supplied to the first owner via the dealership in Palermo, Sicily. In January 1979, 19237 was registered in the name of Giuseppa Ippolito who retained ownership until 1989 when it passed with approximately 22,000 kms to the renowned collection of Ferrari enthusiast Giorgio Schon. The cherished collection was based in Milan and all the cars were meticulously looked after and serviced regularly. Schon used the 308 very sparingly adding around 2000 kms in 24 years!!

In October 2012, Ferrari’s Classiche department awarded the red book certification to 19237 and to this day it is in superb original condition. Sold by ourselves to the current owner in 2014 it is a pleasure to have back one of the most iconic yet undervalued Ferraris.

1977 FERRARI 308 GTB
RARE FIBREGLASS (VETRORESINA)
Chassis No: 20699

This particular Ferrari 308 GTB is a rare fibreglass (Vetroresina) car - one of fewer than 200 right-hand-drive examples built. Chassis number 20699 was built in 1977, and retains its Ferrari factory-specification electric windows and air-conditioning, as well as the original spare wheel. This beautiful Ferrari 308 GTB is presented in gleaming Rosso Corsa paintwork following a complete gel coat re-spray as part of its extensive and through recommissioning. This included - engine detailed as was the bay during the major service which included belts, tensioner bearings, valve clearances and all new hoses, the A/C system was reinstated, brakes overhauled, new shock absorbers and springs with the removal and recoating of all suspension components, complete steering overhaul , rust treat – the chassis was stripped, prepared, recoated and finally wax treated for future protection. Lastly a complete sympathetic restoration of the interior consisting of Nero hide and Red carpets. The history file that accompanies this Ferrari 308 GTB includes original invoices and registration documents, not to mention the complete and original leather pouch and books. Its current odometer reading of just over 38,300 miles leaves plenty of scope to be enjoyed thoroughly by the next owner. The Ferrari 308 GTB is not merely a great sports car, though - it is also an excellent choice for collectors, being the company's first two-seater mid-engined V8, which has paved the way for every eight-cylinder model since. It is even more desirable with the rare and early fibreglass body, and there are few examples that can be said to be in such excellent condition as this car. For more information about this Ferrari 308 GTB for sale in Kent, or to arrange an appointment, please contact our sales team on 01474 874555 or 07515 430430
