1964 ALFA ROMEO TZ1 - FISKENS

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
Countdown to Christmas
So the big day is almost here and Santa still has a little bit of space left on his sleigh, and I know for a fact that today's car is one of Santa's all time favorites so you may have to fight him off if you want it.
1964 ALFA ROMEO TZ1

One of only 124 examples built by Alfa Romeo and clothed by Zagato.
This Alfa Romeo TZ was manufactured on the 10th December 1964 and was sold to Monsieur Gaspin who later sold the car to Laborde. Laborde raced the car in historic events throughout Europe during his long term ownership including the Tour Auto in 1997.
The car was comprehensively restored in France in 2001 and we subsequently sold 046 in 2003 to the previous owner who campaigned it in multiple races and rallies within Europe.
He entrusted Gelscoe Motorsport to maintain and prepare 046, these works including returning the car to its original livery, which it is seen in today. Currently fitted with a competition twin plug motor though included with the car is an original single plug engine. Fully prepared with current HTP papers, 046 is welcome at all the significant historic races and rallies.

1988 ANCIA DELTA S4 STRADALE - JOE MACARI PERFORMANCE CARS

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
Countdown to Christmas
You maybe a bit hard pressed to get today's vehicle into your Christmas stocking but I suppose you could if you only use the photo, We kick off our Christmas week with some Italian flair as we highlight the
1988 LANCIA DELTA S4 STRADALE
From Joe Macari Performance Cars

Lancia Delta S4 Stradale, 1 of 45 road-cars remaining
. A unique opportunity to invest in rallying history.

Specification

Lancia have always been associated with Rallying, especially in the glorious 80s with the Group B monsters. The Delta S4 is one of the most iconic rally cars in the sport's history, replacing the 037 Monte Carlo and competing in the World Championships in 1985 and 1986 until the FIA banned Group B spec cars. In group B trim, the 1759cc four-cylinder engine had an official 480 bhp (although many believe the true figure was closer to 600), due to its revolutionary Turbocharging and Supercharging, designed to reduce lag. Independent figures suggest that the S4 could accelerate to 100km/h in 2.3 seconds on gravel! The S4 will also go down in the rallying archives due to the tragic death of legend Henri Toivonen and his co-driver Sergio Cresto in the 1986 Tour de Corse. This travesty, amongst others at the time, were the reason that the 'glory years' of rallying needed to be brought to an end.
For homoligation processes, Lancia also built a claimed 200 Delta S4 Stradales in the mid-1980s; a road-going version of the Group B monster. However, records suggest that only around 65 cars were ever produced, with 20 being destroyed or converted to competition-spec for privateer racing.  Although power was reduced to around 200bhp, the car retained the twin-charging of the rally-car. In fact, many stradales were taken into competition by their owners, especially as boosting power from the 4-cylinder engine was an easy procedure.
The car we are able to offer, is one of the few remaining perfect Delta S4s, a true road-going version of a rally and automotive icon. Built in 1985, the car cost £55,000 from new and has covered only 21,000km. Furthermore, this S4 has recently undergone substantial restoration on the bodywork, mechanics and paintwork, meaning it is presented in 'better than new' condition. The S4 is currently sitting in full 'stradale' specification, however a spare Group B front-end and Stradale rear-end can be sourced for the car if required. Following its restoration, the car has dyno'd at over 300bhp and is naturally perfect in and out following months of attention by Italian specialists. This S4 is now also in 'Potenziato Spec;' which involves modifications such as wider rear tyres and strengthened clutch. Although previously finished in Verde York and known amongst enthusiasts as the "Green Car," the car is now finished in its original factory Red with an untouched Beige suede interior.
This 1985 Lancia Delta S4 Stradale is most probably the finest example in the world; and with only 45 cars remaining, an investment opportunity that is rarely seen on the market.

1949 CITROEN 118 NORMALE - ROBIN LAWTON CLASSICS

"CLASSIC O THE DAY"
Countdown to Christmas
Featuring

1949 CITROEN 118 NORMALE

When it debuted in 1934, Citroen’s new ‘Traction Avant’ caused a sensation.
Both stylish and ultra modern, it was the World’s first monocoque production
car with front wheel drive. It was to enjoy an illustrious 23 year
production run, with variants including 7CV, 11CV and the six cylinder 15CV
models.
In total, approximately 760,000 units were produced, and apart from the
Citroen factory in Paris, they were assembled in Belgium, Cologne,
Copenhagen and at Slough in the UK.
It is difficult to avoid the much-used adjective “iconic” when describing
the Traction Avant – it was an integral part of the French landscape for
many decades and it will be remembered by many for a starring role in the TV
series ‘Inspector Maigret’.
This 1949 car is an example of the longer wheelbase ‘Normale’ (the smaller
model was known as ‘Legere’) It appears to have been assembled in Belgium.
Formerly owned by TV presenter and journalist Chris Goffey for many years,
the car has been the subject of extensive work since being imported to the
UK in 1985.
During the last few months the wiring has had attention and a new battery
has been fitted. The front wings have been restored and repainted by a local
coachworks just 2 months ago.
The overall appearance is very smart and the original cloth interior trim
is sound and tidy, with just some stains which are commensurate with age.
The braking system has also been overhauled this year. The car has been
carefully maintained during the present ownership - the gearbox was rebuilt
by Roger Williams and a diaphragm clutch fitted along with uprated cwp and
Range Rover CV joints. The engine has benefited from a top end overhaul and
the radiator has been reconditioned.
The car drives very well with ample power, coping with the steep hills
around Hampshire very easily.
A large file of paperwork is supplied, including bills and details of work
carried out, plus a copy of the Repair Manual and much additional
information on Citroens of this period.
For more information please call me on 07710-364945 or 01420-474919.
We are located south of the Hindhead Tunnel (A3) between Petersfield and
Alton. Viewing by prior appointment please.
Delivery can be arranged at very competitive rates.
£12,995

Please don't hesitate to contact me to discuss your requirements, I look forward to being of assistance.
Happy motoring!

STANLEY STEAMER LIMOUSINE - Private Sale

" CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
Countdown to Christmas
We have something extra special for our "Classic of the Day" on this fine Winter's Day. We must firstly thank Mr Edward Way for his kind permission for us to bring you this special vehicle.
Sometimes something turns up in a barn that is of special interest to the motoring community and this is one of those  times.
STANLEY STEAMER LIMOUSINE
Chassis Number 19357 | Engine Number 7404188 | Springfield Coachworks
Body Number 1549 | UK Registration Number  BF 5158

This “Barn Find” Stanley Steam Limousine must be one of the most original Stanley Steamers in existence.

It is believed that the first owner was Mr Hartley Baker the owner of the Baker Steam Boiler Manufacturer in Colorado and so was fitted with his patented design of coiled tube boiler from new which it still retains.

The car was bought by the present owner, Edward Way in Dec 2006. Edward has preserved its unique features and originality in every possible way whilst also returning the car to the road. The only major change has been the fitting of 4 new BF Goodrich straight sided tyres and new tubes to pass the UK MOT test required at the time. The original “Non Skid” tyres have been retained and were used for a short time in 2006.

Edward was assisted in his early stages of ownership by the UK expert steam enthusiast Jeff Theobald, and after careful inspection and lubrication, the car was soon steamed up for (it is believed) the first time for many years in 2007.

A  learning curve proceeded regarding the car's steam process, including a thorough cleaning of the engine components, removal and cleaning of the oil pan and engine covers, and some sympathetic repair of the water tank. Many of the “Clack” valves were removed and cleaned and various pumps and fittings removed, cleaned and replaced. At all times“Oily Rag” preservation philosophy was taken rather than replacement with modern components.

The car has been used on many local runs, pub crawls and to various local events with the owner eventually gaining confidence of the technology. Fire up to running time of around 15 minutes was achieved and a running speed of 30 to 40 mph was easily mastered; the boiler with automatic control generally running at 500psi.

Enough confidence was gained in 2008 for a trip to Prescott Hill Climb around 140 miles away to be contemplated. The car set off in fine style but sadly after around 70 reasonably trouble free miles the boiler developed an internal leak from a weld and the car was returned to base. The vehicle has not been running since. It has been stored in a heated storage space with the owner’s collection of other cars which include Bugatti and Bentley vehicles.

A seven seater limousine with the two standard “jump” seats that fold away to the back of the front seat. The front seat back folds flat if required to meet the rear seat squab and then turn the whole of the rear into a double sized bed. This combined with the rear silk blinds ensure reasonable privacy!

Attributes

  • This type of Stanley has a condenser to recycle water on the front of the car and this was flushed out to remove surplus oil before first fire up. The car appeared to need a water fill after typically an 80 mile run.
  • The vehicle was run on pressurised kerosene for the main burner and pump petrol on the pilot burner. All pressure tanks and fuel tanks held pressure perfectly without problems.
  • A boiler pressure test was carried out by a qualified test organisation which was passed although the boiler did fail shortly afterwards possibly due to the 1 ½ times pressure test of 900 psi.
  • Instruments all appear original and complete although the Speedometer is missing the drive gear system. All other pressure gauges have been checked for accuracy.
  • Some limited work was carried out on the electrics by the current owner using cloth covered wire to ensure the car passed its MOT
  • Paintwork looks original in many areas although some lifting and crazing of the paintwork is visible
  • The rear compartment has inset reading lights and also an electric Cigar lighter. Two flower vase holders are mounted on the door pillars
  • The interior velour type fabric on seats and door facing is remarkable and clearly original. It is in need of some careful renovation but very usable.

Edward has decided to sell the car to a new owner who will hopefully cherish the originality and rebuild or replace the boiler to allow it to once again silently steam along the highways.

Please feel free to contact me for more information or to arrange a showing
