"FERRARI FRIDAY"
FROM
1976 Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina
he
Ferrari 308 GTB was the successor to the Dino 308 GT4. In fact, when it
was first spotted testing in Italy, the ‘Prancing Horse’ Ferrari
magazine in the US called the 308 GTB ‘a very new Dino’ - but the
two-seater Ferrari production car was a very different proposition.
The engine, driveline, suspension, steering and brakes are
shared with Ferrari’s Dino 308 GT4, but to style the car, Ferrari
returned to Pininfarina rather than work with Bertone again. The
Ferrari’s svelte lines penned by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina
remain as stunning today as they were when first revealed in 1975.
This particular Ferrari 308 GTB is a rare fibreglass (Vetroresina) car - one of fewer than 200 RHD examples built, and is believed to be one of only 44 RHD wet sump cars delivered. Chassis number 20247 is a right-hand-drive 308 GTB built in 1976, and retains its Ferrari factory-specification electric windows and air-conditioning, as well as the correct 14-inch alloy wheels, full size spare, standard front spoiler and the original jacking kit in the boot.
This matching-numbers Ferrari 308 GTB has been subjected to a recent restoration, and is now finished in wonderful red (Rosso Corsa) paint, with a retrimmed interior in tan leather and beige carpets. The file that accompanies this Ferrari includes a number of invoices and documents covering its most recent years with an owner overseas, which attest to its current odometer reading of just over 51000 miles.
Just like its 308 GT4 forebear, the Ferrari 308 GTB’s flexible 3.0-litre V8, space-frame chassis and independent suspension mean it can play the part of fast, comfortable cruiser as well as full-bodied Ferrari sports car.
The Ferrari 308 GTB is not merely a great sports car, though - it is also a terrific investment, with values continuing to rise. This example is among the earlier 308 GTBs built and is now presented in immaculate condition.
