1930 HUMBER 16/50 SALOON
The Humber firm was created in 1887, first making bicycles, then motorcycles and cars, then in 1925 with the acquisition of Commer in 1925, commercial vehicles. Although Humber had a reputation for quality products, the firm became unprofitable in the mid 20's until the Rootes brothers bought into the business in 1928. It was also forced to radically redesign its cars and the 16/50, launched at the 1928 motor show was the result. These imposing and beautifully proportioned cars are, as you would expect quite rare.
This car is a 1929 model, 1930 registered 16/50 MK2 saloon in its original colour scheme of black over maroon with right-hand gear-change. It still carries its original registration number and the recorded mileage of 44,000 is believed correct. Over the last few years, this car has been subjected to a complete restoration - too much to list here but there are photos showing it as a bare chassis and the engine, gearbox, brakes, suspension, axles have all been re-built, the wiring loom had been replaced, the radiator re-cored, new batteries and four new Michelin tyres. The body has also been completely renovated with new steel let in where needed then it was etch primed and painted in period paint before a new leather roof covering was fitted. Despite all of this work, the restoration has been sympathetic and the car looks outstanding. The interior trim is original and will need completely replacing if it is to be brought up to the standard of the rest of the car.
Please call if more detail is required.
