1984 LAVERDA JOTA - COTSWOLD COLLECTORS CARS

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
Countdown to Christmas
Featuring
COTSWOLD COLLECTORS CARS
It's not often we feature bikes in our " Classic of the Day" and that is mainly down to my ignorance of eveything two wheeled, however now and again my  wife & Deputy Editor comes up with something she thinks we should cover, and today is one of those days.
1984 LAVERDA JOTA
Laverda motorcycles started as an offshoot of the large North-East Italian agricultural machinery firm in the 1940s concentrating on small capacity machines for postwar Europe.
This did not stop them racing and various small capacity Laverdas competed in long distance events such as the Milano-Taranto and the Giro d’Italia during the 1950s.  In the 1960s Laverda took advantage of the greater public wealth and started building larger capacity machines firstly with their 650cc twin and then, what would become their legendary, 750cc twins including the 750 GT/S, 750SF and the race based 750SFC.
It was a British company though which gave rise to Laverda’s most famous model – the 3 cylinder, 1000cc Jota.  Laverda had released the 3C triple in 1973 but at the suggestion of the Slater Brothers from Bromyard, Hereford, Laverda tuned up the motor with hot cams, high compression pistons and high flow exhausts - renaming it the Jota.  The Jota was aggressive and expensive - producing 90bhp, with a top speed of 140mph and in the mid 1970s it was the fastest machine on 2 wheels winning the UK production series 4 times in ’76, ’78 – ’80.
The Jota was altered several times over the following years the most notable alteration being the crankshaft.  Starting off initially with a 180-degree crank it was changed in 1981 to 120 degrees in an attempt to reduce vibration that had plagued the bike since conception.  A 1200cc version was produced largely for the American market and finally the RGS and RGA triples came in the 1980s.  Despite good performance their prices were high compared to the Japanese tide that was arriving in Europe and sales were disappointing, resulting in Laverda going into receivership in 1987
This 1984 RGA bike is an excellent example of the last of these wonderful, 3 cylinder motorcycles with the smoother 120-degree crank.  It is finished in dark blue with a black seat, all the paint and bright work is in excellent condition.  The mechanical condition matches the cosmetic finish.  The forks have been over hauled and given new seals, the brakes where gone through with new fluid and pads.   It has done 21,000 miles, it starts easily and rides as well as you would imagine.

1975 MASERATI BORA - McGRATH MASERATI

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS
  1975 MASERATI BORA

A Rare Opportunity to Acquire a Race-Prepared Classic
Chassis AM117*175*. This matching numbers 1973 Maserati Bora is one of only 44 cars made in right hand drive and features the full European specification including the 4.7litre engine. Originally yellow with black interior, the car was restored some years ago and at the same time to converted by its enthusiastic owner to racing specification in order to compete in the HSCC Roadsports Series here in the UK.
This preparation included an engine rebuild and some mild tuning including a full flow exhaust system, improvements to the suspension, brakes and cooling and substitution of glass for Perspex and other normal weight saving and safety improvement measures. However, regulations for this series are quite clear that the car can only be modified in certain areas and therefore this presents the next owner with a lot of choice.
The car is still road registered, though not currently MOT tested. All the original parts removed from the car are still present and correct and included in the sale. It could therefore be returned to original road going specification. Alternatively, if like the current owner, you feel that this is an area of racing that sees too few Maseratis, then you could take over racing the car and continue its development. Or why not see this as an opportunity to create a replica of the legendary Thepennier Le Mans Bora. Actually, there is a fourth option, why not just use it as it is on the road as it is as a very exciting road car…?
As mentioned, the car comes with all its original parts, as well as numerous wheels are tyres suitable for racing. It is offered on behalf of a private owner, an active member of the UK racing fraternity and also the Maserati Club. Available to view at McGrath Maserati, please contact us.

1978 FERRARI 308GTS - AMARI SUPERCARS GB

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
Countdown to Christmas
The man in the red suit is still checking his list so you still have a chance of getting that special gift, but you may need a larger garage first.

 1978 FERRARI 308GTS

The Ferrari 308 GTB was launched at the Paris Motor show in 1975 as a direct replacement for the Dino 246. Designed by Pininfarina with sweeping curves and aggressive lines the 308 has gone on to become one of the most recognised Ferrari's of all time. The Targa topped Ferrari 308 GTS version was introduced in 1977 and was made famous by the TV series "Magnum PI". Fitted with a 2.9 litre DOHC V8 engine fitted with four Weber 40DCNF Carburettors that produced 255bhp the 308 went from 0 to 60mph in 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 159 mph. In 1980 fuel injection was added to the 308 and power went down from 255 bhp to 214 bhp however two years later four vales per cylinder were added giving quattrovalvole models 240bhp. The 308 was manufactured in both GTB and GTS forms from 1977 to 1985 before being replaced by the 328.
The body of the car was originally made in fibreglass, which changed to steel in 1977 and arguably vastly improved the car and handling. The engine was originally offered with Carburettor, but changed to Fuel Injection in 1980, followed by a Quattro Valve QV Model in 1982.
The Steel Bodied Carburettor models are of particular interest to the collectors as they all represent the original car with the improvement of the Steel Body.
The interest is increasing at an exponential rate, which has reflected in the values which are almost increasing on a weekly basis.

More Information

This left-hand drive Ferrari 308 GTS was supplied new in 1978 and is a desirable carburettor example. Finished in one of the most impressive colour combinations of black exterior with cream leather interior, it simply screams 1970s exotica. The previous owner discovered this car in a large European private collection, where it had been stored since 1996. It was taken directly to Ferrari marque specialists for inspection and was found to be in highly original condition. A full service was also carried out and the cambelts replaced. This work has all been completed within the one year and a full condition report will be supplied in the history file.
Supplied with a fresh MoT, service wallet and dealer book, this steel bodied carburettor model has to be worthy of consideration to any Ferrari collector.
The service history consist of the following:

04/03/1987 - 53027 Km - Ferrari
02/05/1989 - 58430 km - Ferrari
12/06/1991 - 58975 km - Ferrari

You can buy the car in its present condition at the advertised price, OR
You can purchase the car as a 'ground up & full nuts & bolts' restoration project for £99,995.00.

1952 TEMPO MATADOR PICK-UP TRUCK - PANORAMA BAY

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
In Association with
Our selection today is totally different to anything we normally post. We are constantly looking for something unusual and we today think this is totally off the wall, quirky and should attract plenty of questions on the show circuit.
1952 TEMPO MATADOR PICK-UP TRUCK

Finished in light blue with a brand new dark blue tilt. Full nut and bolt restoration and in fantastic condition. Please call for more details of this special pick up. A collector's must have

Marque Information
Tempo was founded as Vidal & Sohn Tempo-Werke in 1924. During the 1940s, Tempo produced small military vehicles. Post-war the requirement of the Bundesgrenzschutz, in West Germany, to acquire a suitable vehicle for Border patrol led to production of the 80" and 86" Tempo from 1953 to 1957. The Tempo 80" and 86" was built using a rolling chassis from Land Rover, but attempts to continue production with the 88" and 109" models were not successful.
In 1958, Firodia Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of cars (Now known as Force Motors), started the production of Hanseat three-wheeled cars with the collaboration of Tempo-Werke. Later on, Tempo introduced the Matador, which (along with the Hanseat) was extremely popular in India where it was used as goods carrying vehicles. The four-wheeled Matador remained under production by Tempo from 1949 till 1967.
In 1966, Tempo partnered with Hanomag AG, the produced vehicles were sold under the name of Hanomag. From 1967 to 1970 the vehicles were sold under the new name "Hanomag-Henschel". In 1971, Hanomag-Henschel, and within Tempo, was purchased by Daimler-Benz AG. Tempo remained on the production of vans until 1977. From 1966 to 1977, all vehicles produced by Tempo were sold under a different name, either Hanomag, Rheinstahl-Hanomag, Hanomag-Henschel, or Mercedes-Benz.
Various Tempo vehicles were once extremely common as goods carrying vehicle on the streets of Indian cities where the Indian company marketed them ...Read More

This is a very rare VW powered truck called a Tempo Matador, built in 1951
by a Hamburg Germany based company by the name of Vidal and Sohn.
These trucks were produced for a short period of time from 1949 through 1951
and used the well tested 25 horse VW powerplant and a ZF non-synchro 4 speed transmission.
But the placement of the drivetrain was in the front, rather than in the rear live the VW transporter
making it a true front wheel drive vehicle.
They were built in a truck and a van format and only about 1300 were produced in total
with roughly less than 10 known to exist today...making it a very rare machine. See More

This beautiful P6 3500 automatic has only covered 21,000 miles since new. It was supplied by James Windsor and Son of Mansfield to Messrs J.C. Bamford (the company behind JCB machinery) on 5th May 1976 via the prestigious luxury car specialist William Loughran near Preston, whose sticker remains in the rear window.
It was specially ordered with Gold plated fixtures and fittings along with power steering.
Apparently the car was with the Bamford collection until it was first registered in April 1983.
The original owner's book pack and manuals are in the file along with the Passport to Service book.
The car was sold to a Hong Kong based collector in 2010 with only 21,000 miles on the clock and with one registered owner.
