1957 MGA MkI COUPE
The MGA roadster was announced on 26 September 1955 and officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show with the Coupe following a year later in September 1956. Styled by Syd Enever the design was based on the lessons learnt from the record-breaking efforts of the factory works team and the final result is arguably one of the prettiest cars ever produced by the Abingdon factory
Our rare RHD home market car was registered on 28th October 1957 (first full year of production) and is finished in the original colour combination of mineral blue (available on Mk1 coupes only) with the grey leather interior. The first owner, Harry Varley, bought the MGA to use mainly for golfing trips and sold the car to his brother in 1959. His family learnt to drive in the car and son Roger completed a 4,500 trip around Europe in 1964 after which the car was sold.
Roger traced/purchased the car again in 1986 and immediately commenced a full labour of love restoration at marque specialists Peter Wood’s that took two years and cost over £12,000 - a figure far in excess of market value at the time – and used her sparingly thereafter
In 2012 the next owner upgraded the car by fitting a five-speed Type 9 Ford gearbox making the car very capable of keeping up with modern traffic.
The large history file contains original driver’s book, buff log book, old MOT’s, invoices, details of previous owners, magazine articles about the car etc.
Today this super desirable car has covered just 8,000 since the restoration thirty years ago, looks stunning and drives superbly with brisk acceleration and 70mph cruising. Equally at home at Goodwood, cruising through France or simply a trip to the local pub this car will give years of pleasure to the new keeper
PRICE: £25995
