AUSTIN PRINCESS VANDEN PLAS 4-Litre - PEMBROKESHIRE CLASSIC INVESTMENTS

"CLASSIC OF THE DAY"
I was lucky enough to have driven a car like today's choice of classic during the early eighties whilst helping out at a Wedding Car Hire company who ran two of these as well as Rolls Royce's, Daimler's.
Our dealer of the day is also local to us in Pembrokeshire.

The Princess has superb Burr Walnut Facia and Door Cappings with Picnic Tables to the Rear. The original owner had the car for 20 years, during this time useage was fairly infrequent save for an annual run from High Wycombe to the Lake District. Since the Princess was sold in 1985 it has been owned by Vanden Plas Enthusiasts. The car has always been garaged, maintained fastidiously with pride. The Princess is fitted with Power steering, this was a standard feature of the car. The Princess is one of the finest examples you will have seen, sure to attract very keen interest, be it at the " Shows " or on special days out.

1964-1968 VANDEN PLAS 4-Litre R

Overview

A brief encounter between Rolls-Royce and BMC led to the Vanden Plas 4-Litre R of 1964. The ‘R’ of the name was shorthand for the 3909cc Rolls-Royce six-cylinder engine under the bonnet of a modified 3-Litre bodyshell. The 175bhp of the all-alloy unit meant an easy car to drive – even without the extra refinement from the Borg Warner automatic transmission, power steering and servo-assisted front disc brakes. There was even more wood and leather inside than in the 3-Litre cars. Rolls-Royce even considered building its own version as a Bentley but then decided against it.
