1986 PORSCHE 911 RENNSPORT
£69,995
Anyone with an enthusiasm for Porsche will know that this year the marque is celebrating its 70th anniversary. During this time, many successful models have been created from the early 356 to the dominant 919s and of course the immortal 911.
Of course, every Porsche enthusiast will have a favourite, but ask them to pick their top five and the 1973 Carrera RS will almost certainly feature and with good reason too. When Porsche enlarged the engine from 2341cc to 2687cc it seemed a modest increase on paper, but combined with a reduction in weight, the 2.7RS Carrera turned into a high performance sports car capable of showing a clean pair of heals to just about anything at the time and unlike many of its peers, with Porsche reliability too.
It is no coincidence that several F1 drivers in period chose the 2.7RS as their car to get to the circuit. At a stroke, Porsche had created a future classic, which is why collectors today want a 2.7RS in their garage.
Unfortunately, with desirability comes a price tag that takes an original RS away from most enthusiasts, particularly when you are talking about one of the original 17 RHD lightweights.
This has left a gap in the market for recreations, such as those produced by 911 Rennsport. Cars that capture the essence of an original for a fraction of the outlay.
These recreations are based on the 80s 911s and capture the magic of an original. This example is based on a 1986 911 Carrera 3.2. It was purchased from 911 Rennsport by its current owner in November 2015. As part of the purchase agreement, the car was refreshed. This included changing the gold decals to black and the gold replica Fuchs wheels being replaced by a new Black set with new tyres. Further improvements were made after purchase to maintain and enhance the car.
Finished in blood orange, it features a lightweight interior with Harris tweed inserts and the look is completed with 7”x16” and 8”x16” Fuchs style wheels.
With an increase in engine size, BHP and torque together with a similar kerb weight to a RS 2.7, it will come as no surprise to learn that this replica will outperform an original with ease, whilst larger brakes give increased stopping power. Geometry and careful set up are key to how a 911 will handle and the current owner has ensured this 911 handles as well as it looks.
A sharp looking replica with a driving experience to match and available for immediate enjoyment.
